Language Setting and Region Locking

So, Merry Christmas; finally got me an Xbox One. I know, I am a little late in the game.

Anyways, here is my issue. I am a resident of Mexico, but my primary language is English, since I was born and raised in the states. So, naturally when I was setting up my Xbox One, I put English as my preferred language. My first indication that something
was off was when I was asked to put my region, and there was no option to put Mexico or any of the Latin America countries.

It wasn't until last night, when I got another gift that I ran into issues with this set up. When trying to redeem my Xbox gift card, it was denied due to being in the wrong region. It appears that the language selection locks the region to only certain
countries.

That being said, Microsoft; please look at fixing this and separating preferred language and region. Perhaps do like you guys did with the 360 unit and have the users IP determine what region that can select. Because right now, I have a 300 peso gift card
that I can't use.

Now, with all that being said; can I go into my settings and change my language to Spanish and select Mexico to redeem this gift card?

Sadly, there's no way to set the system language to English if you don't live in an English speaking country. I have the same problem, I absolutely hate the Brazilian Portuguese dubbed games and keep my settings as English/Canada (because Canada is more awesome, sorry US), but can't use credit card or Xbox Movies without resetting the system.
For now, the best we can do is vote in one of the several Xbox Feedback demands to dissociate languages from region on Xbox or let you download games on a language different from the system language.

Your account region has to reflect your actual region

And no English content wouldn't be available in Mexico so there is very little point in having English in mexico

In order to redeem your code you need to match it with your actual region and your account region

Region locks is not something that Ms can remove it something that is actually put in place by publishers and international laws

For.the best experience with live your account region has to reflect your actual region

And no locale doesn't change your account rwgion

 

Your ip never determined your account region ever

It's what you set it to

However your ip decides what content you can receive that didn't prevent you from using out of region account only buying incompatible content in this case English content that is region.

I am also having the same issue here in Germany. I can speak 3 languages, but as I chose English which is my preferred language to use, i am now unable to select Germany as my region. I find it rather close minded that they cant separate language and country
especially in this day and age. It's hard to believe that microsoft can think that if i live in Germany i therefore only understand German. I guess i'm the only person in Germany that can speak English...

 

Nope you just have to abide by their laws

You can't get content that's isn't allowed in their region

Hence the region lock

Germany has the most strict of censorship laws

 

If that content is allowed then you are only allowed them German version not the UK or any other countries

Region locks are legal boundaries set by publishers and countries to insure laws are rights are followed

 

Regional restrictions area valid point. But locking the language doesn't make sense at all.

By the way: Germany is only very strict on brutality. In everything else (like nipples ;-) we are much more liberal than the US for instance.

That's why my son (6) is "officially" not allowed to watch harmless music videos according to "MS - laws" - so this is not "adjusted" to German laws.

 

I live in Finland but used to live in UK. Hence prefer English as my language setting but have difficulties with my XBOX one as it does not accept that many persons in Finland actually rather use English with XBOX than Finnish.

What setting should I change ?

 

If you want to play content in English the best thing you can do is change the region on your console NOT account migration.

Change the region on your console to UK English or USA English, you will not have access to the marketplace that way but your games will be English. In order to purchase games you can just do so via the Xbox Marketplace on the Xbox.com website or change
your region on the console back to access the local marketplace.
