Language/localisation problem for Fallout 3 from Marketplace.

Hello,

I am a resident of Belgium in the Flemish region, so my native tongue is Dutch.

My locale settings on my XBOX 360 are English for language an UK for location, just to be sure all my games are in English.

My Xbox menu is part English, part Dutch, details for Games are in Dutch, some adds come in French. But I can live with that, as long as the games are in English.

I recently bought the Pip-boy edition for Fallout 4 (English version), which comes with a code for the free version of Fallout 3.

But since I don't have an Xbox One yet, I was going to use the Free Code for Fallout 3, to DL on my XBOX 360.

After the DL, I started the game and to my surprise it was in French.

No choice possible in the game to change the language.

So I thought that Marketplace was confused and believed I lived in the French region of Belgium.

After some searching on the Internet, I decided the only possible way to get the correct language was to move my account to the UK.

Once this was done, the game still started in French, so it was a pure French version.

I removed the game, and started the DL again.

Unfortunately the DL stops at 80% and immediately starts again at 0%.

I've several times cleared the cache of my harddisk, rebooted the XBox, moved games from my harddisk to an external USB-disk, but still the same problem.

Maybe it doesn't allow me to DL the English version, since I already unknowingly downloaded the French version, but there is no message at all that indicates this.

In the meantime, I almost reached my Monthly Internet Volume, so I will not do anymore attempt, unless I am 100% sure.

I believe XBox Live/Marketplace had a problem with my Locale settings. When I set Language English in the Xbox, then everything should be in English and not mixed with Dutch and French, be it for Menus, Adds, and most important, Games.

Can you solve this for me, Microsoft?

Hi ! Same problem here but in Switzerland... I live in the french part and the game came in german... Changing my xbox language to english or back to french didn't help... It looks that its our fault to live in more than "1-language" country...

I'm currently waiting on xbox chat to get a refund... let me know if you found another solution !

Well first since you live in Belgium you would need to move your account region back to belguim

For the best experience with xbox live you need to match you're account region with your actual region

It is not possible to get English content in belguim it goes by ip

 

I have no problem to move my account back to Belgium. But according to the rules I have to wait 3 months to do this.

It is not my fault I got the wrong content. I was not presented with an option to choose which language the game was in. Like I said, Marketplace decided I was French speaking, which I'm not. Even my IP-provider is located in the Flemish region. So the mistake
is totally at Microsoft's side.

If it is not possible to get English content, then why are all the other games I have downloaded from Marketplace in English? This is the first time this has happened. At least the game should be in Dutch then. Or they should at least give the option before
downloading the game, which language that you want. For a Billion dollar company, the can't be that difficult.

I want something better and more logical as an answer.

Very few games allow for choosing an language in game

It is what is available on the marketplace is what is available to you

Every dlc has a language displayed unless you use the Web marketplace which only has a general listing on what is available globally from that the dlc is given the closest national language based on region Dutch or French in your case

 

Doesn't matter what's side you are on your account region decides what languages are available

You may have downloaded some dlc in the UK account however when you get a region error the only way to fix it is to match your actual region

Not all content is region locked just mostly content that has violent or sensitive topics like cod games halo gears of war mass effect etc anything triple A pretty much

The reason why you don't get the region error is because you use a code

However the system checks before you download and near the end of you fail the region check that's when it cancels

 

It is quite simple to me. I have bought a game which says (English version), so that is what i want.

I don't need Microsoft deciding for me what is best for me. You have earlier talked about, choosing your own region will get you the best experience, well is doesn't.

So the system can't check beforehand what region I am in and give me a message in an understandable manner. It needs to waste my volume first and then start all over again! Where is the logic in that?

The system is flawed and needs to be corrected.

Will Microsoft reimburse me for the time and the downloaded volume I have wasted on this already? Still waiting for a decent answer.

 

If there is a Dutch version or a French version you will see it displayed on your console marketplace usually Dutch or fr for french or on the rare cases english

Doesn't matter on ms actually what is available to you

It's both the government and publishers that decide what content is allowed in you're region

If they feel like publishing to 99% of the populations In your region that's their right

If they don't feel like publishing to 1% of the populations for english remember they are also paying licensing fees for every region they publish in

 

It was displayed on Marketplace as "Fallout 3", period. So I assumed it was in English.

Didn't you read my previous comments, this has never happened before.

The government in Belgium has a pretty open view on Games, so no restrictions here. I know in Germany they have censored "Left 4 Dead" and in Japan, "Fallout 3" has the atom bomb removed. No restrictions here whatsoever.

This still doesn't answer all of my previous questions, which I am not gonna repeat.

 

Games are published per region

Meaning when they make a game they select the countries per version

In thus case bestheda which actually tends to region lock their own games

What is available in your region is only available in your region

There is no English content as the language of majority is Dutch or French which is your only two options

 

You have to select whatever is your region

Games are rarely published in multiple languages in game I know of only one

This is standard practice due to licensing laws

 

Since it is a code it goes by your account region however since you are failing the region check for UK content that's why you are failing the download

You can only download the Belgium content

 

This is whats happening

You put your location to UK

However your ip is belgium

You redeem the code on a UK account there to get English content

It queues the English content

However xbox sees you are in belgium ip

It says No you aren't allowed and cancels the download
