1. Lagging and disconnection

Ever since January, when I moved and got a new gateway set up from Comcast, my gaming has been interrupted with bad lag and contact disconnections from Xbox Live. I've called Comcast several times and even called Xbox support. I'm hardwired, my nat is Open
and here is my speed test results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/4415890973.png

The gentleman on Xbox support had me power cycle my Xbox and that somewhat helped with the disconnection happening so often, it's just not as bad now. The games I play are a lag fest. GTA V I end up in lobbies with 2-5 people and I'll get some "unknown connection
error" after a couple minutes and on COD:AW I'll try to find a match but the lobbies just keep resetting itself.

Is there something the modem/router (gateway) settings that I should set? I've tried the static IP (maybe I'm doing it wrong?), tried DMZ, port forwarding, UPnP....what is the magical set up...what am I doing wrong?? I'm about to buy a cat6 Ethernet cable
when I get home from work tomorrow. Running out of options!!

:)

why work so hard to make madden so realistic then let cheats and glitches ruin the game??????

Honestly a lot of people call anything they can't stop a glitch, so its pretty much a gray area. Obviously lagging and disconnection is cheating but some plays people say are glitches because they cant stop it

Lagging and disconnection

Greetings nanamarie!

Appreciate if you can post up the make and model of your modem router combo (gateway), along with the information whether you connect wireless, or wired with your console.
what is the magical set up
If you ask me, in regard to most gateway's, I would say "Bridge" mode. In this mode, the gateway will be operating as standard modem, without NAT, or route implementation. The vast majority of gateway's,
provided by a certain ISP (starts with C, ends with t) are operating in a poorly manner when it comes to route and UPnP implemenation, but they suit well as a layer two device. Lagging and disconnection :)

5. I use an Ethernet cord to connect online. technicolor tc8305c ...and I'm not 100% certain what Bridge mode is, so I haven't messed with that, especially when I'm not the only one using the Internet here .. I wouldn't want to ruin it for others.

Oh, the Technicolor TC8305C!

This device is a troublemaker when it comes to connectivity to Xbox Live and it has been since October last year when Comcast decided to push out an unfinished update to this device's firmware. Since then, it's still a struggle for many end users with this
device and connectivity to Xbox Live.

If you haven't already, I would suggest that you make sure the TC8305C's
firewall settings
are set to Low. This however is not a guaranteed fix for these issues you are experiencing.

Also make sure the Ethernet Cable you are using is in mint condition, or try connect your console with a different Ethernet Cable.

My advice to you would be to reach out to Comcast and have them know about your situation, regarding connectivity to Xbox Live. Comcast are able to setup the TC8305C in bridge mode, where this device will operate as a standard modem, without NAT implementation.
You can then select from a range of wireless routers on the market that are well known to integrate with UPnP and Xbox Live seamlessly.

Keep us posted!

7. Alright, thank you. I just did some research myself just now and read a lot of others complaining. Firewall is currently set that way, so I'm going to buy another Ethernet cable after work tomorrow and I have a Comcast tech coming on Wednesday.

Disconnect in the middle of games and reconnect 15 seconds later

Well lag is something else really, did you lag and then disconnect before or just disconnect?

Lag and high ping spikes on series x

Only solution is to use Ethernet with WiFi totally disconnected for no lag it seems
