    Hi

    Regarding the lack of a dedicated hdmi sound output on xbox one x.

    I would really love to be able to disable the live tv hdmi in in via menu and be able to reasign it as sound out. As i bought the xbox to mainly play games and second as a 4k hdr bluray player.

    This is prohibiting me to be able to listen to the dolby true hd and dts master sound from blu rays.

    Is this possible to add to the xbox one x firmware/software?

    Mac into Xbox1 HDMI Input - No Sound

    Hey Guys,

    Help! I must be missing something. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro with a minidislay port. I've for the first time, took advantage of the HDMI In on the Xbox one by using the mini display port to HDMI to the XBox HDMI in. Then of course, the Xbox one output is another HDMI to my TV.

    When I go to the "TV" app, I can easily see the video only of the macbook pro screen... but no audio! When I go to settings > sound on the MBP, there is no option to output to HDMI / Xbox one..... (When I skip the xbox, and go directly to the TV, I do have an option to Output sound to the LG TV.

    I use the MBP as a media server with movies, etc, and I'd like to be able to output sound through the Xbox and ultimately to the TV with this setup.

    Xbox one - 5.1 via ARC/HDMI?

    Have you gone into the audio settings on the xbox one and set it to output 5.1 via HDMI?

    Unless this is set, it will only output stereo sound.

    Hi,

    Unfortunately no. Gaming PCs with dedicated graphics cards have multiple display or HDMI ports for multiple screens. The Xbox only has one output.

    Unless this is set, it will only output stereo sound.

    The HDMI standard does support surround sound ...

    I would check HDMI output setting on the xbox, there are 4 settings ... Stereo uncompressed, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed, and Bitstream out. Try the x.1 settings and Bitstream setting to see if the receiver recognizes surround sound. If not, you will
    likely need to use an optical cable to connect the Xbox to the receiver.

    Best choice is to swing all inputs over to a dedicated HDMI switch, then take the HDMI output from the switch and feed it through the Xbox One and then on to one of the receiver inputs. That allows the Xbox One to mix all the audio from whatever second source
    you want to overlay the Xbox One on top of. This won't help with non-HDMI sources that you want to funnel through the Xbox One, though.

    You don't need HMDI 2.1 for 4k on the Series X...you only need HDMI 2.1 to run at 4k 120Hz. The Xbox One X only ran on HDMI 2.0 but it output 4k perfectly fine.
