    Kodi add WD Elements as local media ?


    Searched and can't find the result I'm looking for ...

    I have a lot of movies on an external (wD Elements) drive plugged in to the Xbox One S and want to use Kodi to watch my movies. The Media app is far too limited. How can I set the drive up so when I load Kodi I just go to the "Movies" tab ?

    Hey there ATSooGamer,

    WD My Passport is a good portable drive that works just fine with the console. Besides that I could also suggest checking out WD Elements Portable as a more inexpensive option and WD My Passport X which is designed specifically for Xbox users:

    WD Elements Portable:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    WD My Passport X:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    For desktop external drives with larger capacities you can check out WD Elements Desktop and WD My Book. Both of the should also work just fine and give you more space for your games and media. The difference would be that they have separate power sources
    and are not powered by the USB port:

    WD Elements Desktop:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    WD My Book:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    Pretty much any USB drive should work on your console.

    Thanks. But it is formatted as media drive it is a wd 3.0 3.6tb with 3tb mp3 x264 full HD and some 720p also. A few movies do not play but if I put them on an ext ssd they play.. I use kodi. None 4k play on the hdd. On ssd they do as mp4. Mkv does not work
