Know issues should always be covered.

Hi,

Lately my Xbox 360 has been making noise until ultimately it suffered the dreaded RRoD.

The warranty for my Xbox 360 Elite expired on July 29, 2008. I don't understand why we only have 1 year of warranty since the original xbox360 was plague with RRoD. In all honesty I thought that this issue was fixed when you released Xbox 360. But apparently
its not been fixed. I don't understand why do I have to pay 145 CAD for you to repair my console since it suffered a know issue. How am i suppose to invest on a console if the company itself does not cover known issues that the console suffers. 145 CAD I can
find second hand consoles for that price. I can even find refurbished consoles for that price. Heck I can even buy a brand new console close to that price. Honestly it is frustrating that a console's know issues needs to be covered by a warranty. Known issues
should always be fixed at no cost to the consumer.

I am a pretty casual gamer and have a PC, PS3, WiiU and Xbox360. I play the same amount on my consoles and was planning on buying both XboxOne and PS4 when i see a console bundle that I like. But it looks like XboxOne is out of the question now.

Sounds like your console had a good long life and just recently died. Sorry to hear it.

However, your complaint about the warranty is invalid as Microsoft had extended the warranty of those consoles to three years if they did of RRoD within that time frame.

I know you're not happy about the cost of repairs to the console but that seems to be your only option.

 

Hi, So 3 RED LIGHTS is not some kind of manufacture default its a way the console can communicate what issue it's having. Now Microsoft know about this issue just like they know about disc drives that will fail at some point and power cords will stop working
at some point. All issue's are known but that does not mean you get an unlimited warranty on them. Electrical products break and to be honest if your console has just failed and you original warranty expired in 2008 you've gotten a good run with your console.
Your console is like at least 6 years old. 3 RED LIGHT's actually extend your original warranty by one extra year, which still would not cover your console but the reason Microsoft did this was not because of some KNOWN ISSUE, but because they believed the
console would not last as long as they wanted it to. Warranty's in different country's are different lengths, one country warranty could be like 1 year and another could be 2 but the same consoles are sold in both country's. So when an xbox console is put
on the store shelve for sale it is built to last and out last the warranty if it is looked after but I'm sorry to say it won't last for ever.
