    Yeah that's been one of my biggest wish lists for this game: Make every item in the game useful for something. Soul gem scraps, charcoal, shovels and such are still useless. Say for example charcoal could be needed to get a smelter working, shovels could
    be needed to dig up treasures, soul gem scraps could be used to combine a soul gem, paper could be used to make scrolls, but nope.

    Indeed, the charcoal and paper are part of the Thieves guild main quest. I kind of expected the clay to be near ponds and require a shovel. That's the way it works in the real world. You don't mine clay with a pickaxe. They could have added a kiln so we
    could bake the bricks except the clay seems to be packing for the walls not tiles for the floor and roof. Still, with so much clay around now i wouldn't mind taking up pottery. lol
