    Kinectless Xbox One making strange noise


    Hello,

    Bought an Xbox One two days ago without the Kinect and it booted up fine, it then tells me it needs to do the first update which is 768mb that's fine. The system downloads it then as it restarts I start to hear noises coming from the inside of the console,
    I've heard these noises like these before from my pc when I had a faulty graphics card with dodgy capacitors. So I think nothing of it must be just while it's patching get to the home screen seems to be doing it intermittently think nothing of it maybe it's
    a loud hard drive...

    So first thing I try is installing Twitch and Youtube apps, they install no problem I then went into watch some videos/streams on both apps and all I could hear is this sound that can only be described as what a dot matrix printer usually makes coming from
    the inside of the console?? So I read up on the forums some other people have had the same problem and either got there's repaired or exchanged so I took it back and got it exchanged for a new one. I then took it home booted it up sounded quiet, downloaded
    the update and boom same problem with that one...

    So next I try downloading some demos run the demos the dot matrix printer sound stops I then return to the home screen sounds gone wait a few mintues and as soon as the game disappears from the main window on the desktop the sound starts again. Now i'm not
    sure if this is hardware or software related but this doesn't just seem to be an isolated problem i've found numerous posts around the internet and a few on this forum alone that have the exact same issue. I can only assume that either most people haven't
    noticed or just ignored the noise because it's in there living room and sat away from them, or they don't have a problem with there particular console.

    Also while messing about with the desktop area seeing when the sound disappeared I also found the noise stopped when going into your friends page which shows activity alerts etc the noise completely stops there so maybe something is coded different?

    If anyone has a similar problem to me please speak up, the more people that report this the more chance Microsoft might look into it. If I don't hear from Microsoft support in the next couple of days I think i'm going to just get a refund than risk something
    failing in the console once it's out of warranty no loss to me i'll just stick with my pc and ps4.

    Post october update noise

    I have 2 Xbox One's, the forst is Kinectless version, second is Titanfall bundle with Kinect, both with coil whine pre-update (secon unit less severe). After update, coil whine is gone on the kinectless unit, but still the same on Titanfall bundle. However,
    the kinectless One got the horrible disc drive noise, same as DimaK67. Noise will gone after 20 minutes , but is very irritating, specially with Blu-ray discs.

    Printer like noise?

    A quiet clicking/ticking type noise will be normal hard drive noise.

    But it's hard to tell if the buzzing noise is normal unless you can hear it.

    Do you have any way of putting it on youtube or something?

    Also do you have Kinect?

    There were threads about Kinectless Xboxes making a high pitched hum. You could try searching the forums for one of these threads.

    Thats not the HDD all Kinectless consoles made on or around June seem to have this issue. Take a look at the forums about xbox noise

    It was playing Fortnite, it is strange it is only that game that the noise is so loud from the Xbox. I even asked a friend to download and play and his didn’t make the noise mine has.
