Kinect stops working randomly. Full Reboot fixes it

Same issue here, it's definitely related to the March update.

 

I have been having this issue for the past few weeks. Like many of you I suspect it is related to the update. I have only had my Kinect since December.

 

I believe I have the same issue, Kinnect was working fine before. I just never used it. There used to be an option on the home screen that you could turn the power to connect off I had mine switched to off. Now after the update that option is not available.
the power indicator on Kinect does not turn on and when I go to the Kinnect screen it just says this is what Kinect sees and everything is gray. I called Microsoft in they said I needed to send it in for repair $90 a brand-new one is cheaper than that… Am
I going to have to buy a brand-new Kinect sensor every year?

Please Microsoft fix this problem if it is a software or firmware update.

If it is a problem with the sensor itself this should be covered under a warranty. Do not make people buy accessories that only work for one year. That's just not fair… I have always been a loyal supporter of Microsoft in Xbox since the original Xbox.

 

Since the March Xbox update my Kinnect has stopped working. Tried everything can't get it working. Must be an update problem. Worked fine before the update

 

i am having the same issue and they wanted me to repair it for $89 LOOOOOOOOOOL

i can't remember when this started with mine, but its been maybe less than a month

PLEASE TELL US IF ITS A SOFTWARE ISSUE MICROSOFT!

 

I'm having the same problem, where resetting the console makes it work again (but only for a few hours, or a day at most). Will check for dust...

 

Yep, same problem here. Never had a problem before (Day One edition) and now twice in the last month it's shut off (during XBox Fitness of all things!!) and restarted by itself. It's also not hearing me as well anymore - reran the audio setup and it didn't
make a difference, I'm yelling at it now to get it to listen. They messed something up.

 

I'm having this issue, and have noticed that it only happens when using energy-saving mode AND I start the console with an external hard drive plugged in. If I unplug the external drive first and power on, the kinect operates as it should. Also, if left
in instant-on mode, the kinect operates fine when resuming with the external drive plugged in.

 

Well that's an interesting observation Tosheroon. In my case however, that's not the cause as I always have mine in instant on with an external hard drive.

 

I just started having this problem last week. Its just turning on and off randomly... often the voice commands wont turn the xbox on becuase the kinect doesnt seem to have power??

 

I am having the same issue. Have tried all of the fixes and it still starts and stops randomly.

 

Same problem here. turns on and off randomly and sometimes wont come back on until I restart the console.

Does anyone know if the cable is plugged into the back of the Kinect or if it is moulded into to back.

dont want to pull at the cable to try and unplug and plug back in if it is molded.

Well, not sure how old everyone else's Kinect is, but had mine since launch. It was rebooting constantly (i.e. every day) and randomly (sometimes after 10 mins, other times it took 30 mins) for the past 3 weeks or so. Tried clearing the cache, clearing the
alternate MAC address (www.reddit.com/.../kinect_keeps_restarting_itself_even_after), changing the power outlet, cleaning the air vents/fan,
and finally factory reset (keeping apps and games). Nothing worked.

Talked with support and they said I should exchange it since I have the extended warranty and have done every troubleshooting step. Exchanged it this past Saturday in-store and so far this new one has been working fine (3 days with no rebooting). The tech
said he's seen that once before and exchanging the Kinect fixed it, that it doesn't seem to be a console issue.

Hopefully that's not the case for everyone else, since the timing is certainly suspect for these issues, but I'd be curious to find out how long people have had their Kinect. Maybe 2.5 years is the failure point of a piece of it if used frequently (my wife
and I do Xbox Fitness multiple times a week), so our Kinect is used a lot.
