Kinect stops working randomly. Full Reboot fixes it

I think this issue started after the NXE update.

The issues is around Kinect stops working randomly without error message. If I perform a full power reset it comes back. I have followed the instructions on line for resetting Kinect ( unplug xbone for 1 min, unplug Kinect, power on console, plug Kinect
back in) this seems to resolve the issues for a number of days but then it will just stop working.

I know I'm not the first one to start a thread about it, but the others are locked. I have 2 xbox ones, both with Kinect. They both randomly stop working, occasionally they will come back on without a restart only stop working again. I've tried all the
tricks suggested, I believe it's a software issue.

 

Cant play TitanFall anyone else having this issue?

yeah i have this exact same problem. I have found temporary fixes. Sometimes when i reboot my router and/or modem it works but the second i turn off my xbox it stops working again. I need a fix for this too !

 

Same here. Microsoft needs to release a fix

 

I had this and fixed it by cleaning the fan at the back. Hasnt done it since. Checked how dusty they at the back. Get the hoover pipe on it.

 

Moving to a new power socket worked for a bit, then nopenfailurenagain. I'll check the back of thenkinect for dust and see..

 

Dust and overheating may cause this, but the issues are driver related where the communication between the drivers in the Kinect and console don't always link and connect properly. Persistent cashe may be part of it, but the communication is the core issue.

MS support suggests not placing the Kinect too close to heat or objects.

 

@GrinningBread92 Do you have any info to back this up? I need this fixed but am hesitant to send the kinect in and have it fixed for $70 if its a software issue.

 

@ColonelBacon15 Have you checked to see if it needs cleaning out.? Thats all i did with mine and its been fine since.

It is what I have noticed, where at certain times regarding boot up, it does not communicate with the console like it should; although it operates, certain functions don't always work, and errors can come up. I have gotten errors in trying to reset the Kinect
signin data, where it won't save because it can't find the new data. Other times it won't recognize my voice, but can hear me.

I don't think in your case it is dirty, where the software seems to be corrected by a hard boot or reboot, until the cashe plugs up the data transfer.

 

same issue here. Sometimes it comes back on by itself, sometimes it does not.

 

I just got the March update, and now my Kinect no longer works. MS customer service says it's "just a coincidence", and that it'll cost me $97 to send it in. Hell, I can buy a brand new one for $85! I have a Day One edition that has worked fine until this
update. I was playing Fallout 4, stopped to do the update, and went to lunch. Came back about 90 min later and my Kinect is completely dead, and no setting options. I told him that I'm positive this has something to do with the update, as we're talking 90
min and only one variable change (the update installed).

I have a projector setup; my Kinect stands alone & away from other components (so no residual heat issues); the console and kinect are vacuumed monthly; and my X1 is plugged into the wall (not a surge protector). Not a single permutation of the official
hard reset / full power cycle troubleshooting suggestions worked.

My wife and I are familiar with software development, and we're convinced that someone @ MS effed up somewhere with this update. I'm just disappointed that MS wants to charge me for their mistake.

 

I was having the same issue with my Kinect turning off randomly and then finally turning off completely. The hard reboot or unplugging the kinect worked, but only for the short term.

Then I read a post about the cable that connects the Kinect to the Xbox One can be the cause of the issue. I made sure nothing was pulling on the cord and then pushed it in at the point where it attaches to the Kinect. It has been 4 weeks and I've only
had one issue with the Kinect turning on and off. I promptly pushed the cord back in and haven't had a problem again.

I doubt that this will work for everyone, but it has solved my issues. And at least it is better than buying a new one. I hope this solution works for you.

 

I was going to make a thread about this exact thing. I am glad there is one. My Kinect will shut off and the the only way to reset it is to do a hard reboot. Going into settings says its off even when plugged in. It isn't around anything else as it has
its own space.

I read that it's a software issue, but I am beginning to think mine might be on its way out as this has been happening for a while now.
