I will set my 360 up and test this sensor after making sure the Xbox is up to date. I am in the UK myself so the postage is not an issue. Best to not discuss addresses etc here otherwise one or both of us could be accused of all sorts and end up in trouble.

Just having my dinner then I will check it out.

Ok so I tested the Kinect and all seems good. I have included some pictures so you can check things out. I did need to update the Xbox when I powered up. It is now on dashboard version 2.0.17526.0

It may just be the sensor you have isn't quite 100% functional for some reason, I did go on to calibrate and use the sensor here and it worked out fine.

  3. you might want to make sure that your kinect cable is connected right and that you are plunging in the kinect in correctly

Thanks Gimme Cheetos, I've followed all the available advice and I'm fairly confident that it's plugged in ok.

As per EggsBoxJuan's suggestion I think there may be a malfunction within the device which is not enough to stop it working connected to a PC through the Kinect for Windows SDK (V1.8) but is enough to force the system software of the Xbox360 to fail to recognise
it as a device even though it appears to start the configuration process but is then interrupted.

Thanks for all this above and beyond effort!

I'm starting to think there may be a hardware issue "somewhere" internally that is failing some kind of precheck in the calibration module which sadly to all intents and purposes bricks it for use with the 360.

If you are amenable I'll exchange some deets through other channels and I would be very grateful to take up your kind offer!

Feel free to drop me a message via Xbox live and we can take it from there. My gamertag is the same as the name you see here.

Have you retried plugging it? There is a chance it could be defected?

    Hi EggsBoxJuan,

Apologies for the delay in replying (kids, work, kids etc) many thanks for the suggestion.

It's interesting to see that key combination in action! Sadly however it made no difference.

As a minor aside, the Kinect boot sequence (as much as it gets through) seems to get further (even up to starting what looks like audio config) before being force stopped by the code that does some kind of hardware check that causes the "sensor not supported"
message when the Xbox360 is not set to auto login to Live. When auto connected to live it fails before any Kinect startup info messages appear.

I'm going to try the USB power suggestion below and being a stubborn old goat I will drag my very old first gen 360 out of storage if that fails if only to prove that the sensor is ok.

    Thanks

Right, spent some time on this and I can confirm that the sensor is fine.

I downloaded the 1.8 version of the SDK and got the code samples in the toolkit working audio/video depth etc. I didn't see the motor added as a device but that may be more down to me than it not working.

Soo this leads back to being an issue with at least the last couple of builds of the system software as the sensor if functional and it is detected "nude" in the aux port and connected via usb when powered on my E console only to be stopped in it's tracks
    by the sensor error message.

Thanks so much for the offer of your sensor - I'm in SW London (near Kingston) so if not too spendy and you are in the UK I can send you a Hermes label and a jiffy bag to see if there is "something" the sensor is reporting that the xbox code doesn't like
but the Kinect for Windows SDK is more tolerant of.

    Thanks for everybody's help!

    Hi Tormaz,

Perfectly valid question to ask but I bought the Kinect at the same time as an Xbox Once version and alongside the "Xbox 360" branding on the connectors leading to the power supply I am fairly confident that this is an Xbox 360 version - but I am now going
to check as you have planted the seed of doubt!

    Thanks
