Kinect startup breaks with "This sensor is not supported on Xbox360" message.

Hi I have recently bought a second user Kinect sensor for my Xbox 360 E - After various iterations of powering off/on, connecting disconnecting and attempting to use a kinect compatible game to force a relevant update despite the Xbox recognising the sensor
and going as far as saying it is starting up the process stops with an abrupt " "This sensor is not supported on Xbox360" and the kinect is no longer recognised as connected.

The Xbox has been updated to the most recent O/s Release which was done without the Kinect connected.

Any suggestions on how to manually force whatever driver update is needed to get the thing working would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark McD

    :)

  2. Error Message E303 00000000 8007042C

On startup, I get this error message after the green Xbox one startup screen. I've done the hard reboot, with and without the kinect sensor plugged in. Please help. Thank you!

    xbox 360S unsupported message

Hi, when you moved home was the Kinect securely packaged ? What can happen is the motor inside the Kinect get strained and fails. If that is the case there's nothing you can do to fix the Kinect. The unsupported error can appear if the Kinect can't move
the sensor head, which if the motor has failed would be the case.

It does look like you have the same issue this other person had maybe ?

Hi, do you have the Kinect cable in the port on the rear of the Xbox that is dedicated for the Kinect, if the sensor came with a USB power cable you won't be needing that for the 360 E as the dedicated port also supplies the power for the Kinect.

Hi, the Kinect is connected directly to the Aux port on the Xbox - all the supplied USB power cable items are no longer connected.

The Xbox seems to identify the Kinect as it comes up with a message that it is starting it just halts with the "this sensor is not supported" message. It seems that there needs to be some form of driver update that is needed, I have tried with Kinect compatible
games and the Kinectimals demo and while they update it still doesn't fix the problem.

    Hmm ok try this.

on the xbox go to settings/system settings/storage

highlight your main storage device and press the following buttons in sequence on the controller

LB RB X LB RB X

you will get a screen asking you to confirm removal of the system software or some such

select yes, the xbox will reboot

you will then be asked to update the system software again, do that and then try the kinect again.

    Hello!

This may be a simple question, but is it an Xbox 360 or Xbox One Kinect you are trying to use? Though they look very similar, they are not compatible with each other.

If it is you get the Kinect working and you don't have the Kinect calibration card there are places you can download and print that off if need be, firstly though you need to get the thing working. I guess you have tried it using the USB power adapter
and one of the normal USB ports on the rear of Xbox ? Sometimes the AUX port has been known to not supply enough power for the Kinect so if you haven't already tried that it's worth a shot at least.

    Hi EggsBoxJuan,

Apologies for the delay in replying (kids, work, kids etc) many thanks for the suggestion.

It's interesting to see that key combination in action! Sadly however it made no difference.

As a minor aside, the Kinect boot sequence (as much as it gets through) seems to get further (even up to starting what looks like audio config) before being force stopped by the code that does some kind of hardware check that causes the "sensor not supported"
message when the Xbox360 is not set to auto login to Live. When auto connected to live it fails before any Kinect startup info messages appear.

I'm going to try the USB power suggestion below and being a stubborn old goat I will drag my very old first gen 360 out of storage if that fails if only to prove that the sensor is ok.

    Thanks

    Hi Tormaz,

Perfectly valid question to ask but I bought the Kinect at the same time as an Xbox Once version and alongside the "Xbox 360" branding on the connectors leading to the power supply I am fairly confident that this is an Xbox 360 version - but I am now going
to check as you have planted the seed of doubt!

    Thanks

    Hi ngocphi,

Thanks for the info, sadly at this time I haven't managed to get to the point I need to configure the Kinect but I will download the card when (not if) I finally get it working!

    Thanks

Good luck, if it is you can’t get it working I have a 360 kinect I don’t use. I’d be more than happy to send that to you once I’ve checked it still works. That’s as long as you don’t live a gazzillion miles away.

See how it goes and we can sort something out between us, I don’t want anything for the kinect money wise, it’s a shame for it to sit unused if someone can use it.

Right, spent some time on this and I can confirm that the sensor is fine.

I downloaded the 1.8 version of the SDK and got the code samples in the toolkit working audio/video depth etc. I didn't see the motor added as a device but that may be more down to me than it not working.

Soo this leads back to being an issue with at least the last couple of builds of the system software as the sensor if functional and it is detected "nude" in the aux port and connected via usb when powered on my E console only to be stopped in it's tracks
    by the sensor error message.

Thanks so much for the offer of your sensor - I'm in SW London (near Kingston) so if not too spendy and you are in the UK I can send you a Hermes label and a jiffy bag to see if there is "something" the sensor is reporting that the xbox code doesn't like
but the Kinect for Windows SDK is more tolerant of.

    Thanks for everybody's help!
