This is a feature that could easily be done through headset microphones. Or better yet, add a microphone on the next iteration of the One controller. No offence Microsoft, but I don't want your giant camera in my home.

Can't record

Try the following things please:

If you have Cortana set up - "Hey Cortana, Record that" or "Hey Cortana, take a screenshot" (can be used with Kinect or a headset)

If you use Xbox commands - "Xbox Record That" or "Xbox take a screenshot" (used with Kinect only)

Press the Guide button on your controller and select X or Y to take a screenshot or recording

Kinect doesn't hear me when Xbox One is on

I had the same issue. Turning the unit on by voice worked but thereafter any spoken commands resulted in Cortana telling me, "Rats, I can't hear you. It might be a mic problem." This made no sense because clearly it *could* hear me since it replied with
that statement every time I said, "Hey Cortana"! I resolved it by holding down the power button on the Xbox One to cause a hard reset. When I turned the unit back on, Kinect could hear me and Cortana could finally answer me.

I went into settings and changed it back to 'xbox' instead of 'hey cortana' as soon as it got changed to cortana. it still works as well as it always did, which was never great. microsoft won't admit to abandoning cortana. but they certainly abandoned
Kinect. as of September 2018, there is amazon alexa integration with xbox. which should give you an idea how invested microsoft is or isn't in cortana on xbox. I don't have an xbox one S, but I don't even think it has cortana.

Kinect 2.0 isn't last gen's tech though. And it's not that it is an option that they can push aside. Kinect 2.0 is an integral part of the system. It has resources allocated to it permanently. Plugged in of not.

Cortana does need to be upgraded. Perhaps will be more integral in next round of Xbox's

Alexa and Cortana support are currently in BETA. Not sure how much it’ll integrate (if at all) with Google Home.

Hello, do you have Cortana enabled and are using the "hey Cortana" commands ? If so try turning Cortana off and use the regular "xbox" commands to test if your Kinect then has better control.

It's also a good choice to set up the Kinect again in the Kinect options on your Xbox One.
