    Kinect required to use Cortana

@Randver no your missing the point, I used my voice command to quickly alter a console setting as soon as the thought entered my head and dropped seamlessly back into my game without having to think about buttons or menus. If you weren't so entrenched in
your dogma you would see the value in that. As it as usual you know best and the rest of us simply need to realise that anything we do you know a better way.

You're absolutely right, I don't see the value in that.

As it as usual you know best and the rest of us simply need to realise that anything we do you know a better way.

I've asked every time these Kinect related discussions come up and get crickets......What does the Kinect and it's voice commands do to provide me a better gaming experience when playing an actual game? What am I getting for the trade off of the Kinect consuming
    system resources?

You're entrenched in your views too and don't realize that many of us game on gaming consoles and that is the only thing that concerns us. You're justifying the usefulness of the Kinect so you could change notification settings that you do how often? and
    that I've never done.

No I'm not entrenched I wasn't sold on Kinect but gave it a chance. But I'm sorry for not following the cult of Randver the all knowing gamer. If you can't see the value as a gamer of switching between stuff by using voice almost as fast as I thought
about it and then just seamlessly continuing my game that's your short sighted blinkered attitude that's preventing you.

I'm sure the alternative of going through umpteen button presses and menu selections to get to the function you want then reverse navigating back to play your all important game (I concede that games are far more important to you than casual gamers like
me) is more efficient in your warped world.

    @Genchy

Switching between what stuff? I find it hard to believe that people spend so much time bouncing in and out of their games. I just play the games I thought that was the idea.

But I'm sorry for not following the cult of the all knowing gamer.

I think that line of thought should be becoming clearing that it's not me in that's in the minority. I asked for battery power meters, seeing system storage, dumping the Kinect, not dropping support for the 360 and it's games, a new UI, etc. Everyone of
those topics I was met with the same "you don't speak for us" response yet Microsoft appears to be listening to those views rather than that of the forums regulars.

So is it that I'm just MS's favorite gamer or is it maybe that the Xbox community as a whole shares my views and not yours?

I believe the Kinect 2.0 adds to the game experience in several games. Madden, Alien Isolation, Ryse Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3. Not to metion accessing ALL of the Xbox One's features much faster.

And now with Cortana the experience is only going to get better in my opinion

let me make it simple for you Randver. I needed to change a system setting (following?)

1). My way using Kinect took the amount of time I thought about it and said the commands, seconds then I was back gaming

    2) your way would have involved buttons and menus and taken considerably longer to return to gaming.

To CLARIFY. It was a system setting adjustment that needed to o be done not snapping stuff or whatever for the sake of it.

To sum up my use of the console and Kinect would be faster and more efficient than you doing the same process without Kinect and voice, end result I'm back to all important gaming quicker than you.

  7. I've asked every time these Kinect related discussions come up and get crickets......

Let it be known that from this point forward, you will no longer be able to make that statement.

What does the Kinect and it's voice commands do to provide me a better gaming experience when playing an actual game?

This is a question only you can answer. Why are you asking us? It's already obvious what your answer is, but don't tell the rest of us we're 'wrong' or that we're somehow naïve
for not seeing it the same way.

What am I getting for the trade off of the Kinect consuming system resources?

Again, a question only you can answer.

You're entrenched in your views too and don't realize that many of us game on gaming consoles and that is the only thing that concerns us.

Then why did you choose this console? It isn't like you didn't know, the 360 wasn't a gaming only console and was never intended to be. Sorry, but anyone who purchases a One, yet wants
a gaming only console is just being demanding and inconsiderate of those who want, and are enjoying, what it has to offer us.

We're well aware that Kinect uses some resources. We're well aware that we can't have our cake and eat it too. I like my cake with a few different colored layers, different flavors...
separated by a layer of pudding. If you're more content with just vanilla... don't look at my cake. Great, now I'm hungry for cake.

You're justifying the usefulness of the Kinect so you could change notification settings that you do how often? and that I've never done.

I rarely use the wipers on my car. I use the wiper delay even less often. Even if that caused me to get a slightly lower fuel economy rating, I'd still choose it... not because
of how often I use it but because of just how *** useful and convenient it is when I do.

    Kinect required to use Cortana

    Bravo?

He didn't answer anything, he'd make the perfect politician with that answer ;p

It's black and white, not up for personal preferences or opinion. When you are playing a game the Kinect adds nothing to the gameplay ( with the exception of the Kinect only titles or a handful of titles with limited support ie Ryse, etc)

I own an Xbox for the exclusives and I expect them to run those games to the best of it's ability and anything that prevents it from doing so needs to be justified by being useful.

As I've said numerous times before....I have (and most of you do to) a house full of devices that can do everything the One can do better with the exception of play it's exclusives and that should be it's priority.

Actually the Kinect makes the One experience better. Your problem is you steadfastly refuse to see value because it doesn't fit with your limited viewpoint. Not too far back you would have been loudly protesting to any that were prepared to listen that
    the world is flat.

  10. "We are advancing in time and technology. Next generation does not just include a upgrade in just RAM, GPU, and CPU. The Xbox One with Kinect and now Cortana is the true next gen experience in my opinion."

The key is the RAM, GPU, and CPU. This stuff really is not new. If can just be implemented better on a console now due to these things. PC has had quality voice commands for a long while. I have a program I use that recognizes everything and can search
my whole server in seconds. Or even internet searches. I do not use it much for internet due to having to talk and be a little more "noisy" most of the time but it works perfectly. These programs are just enhancements of things that have been around. Guess
that is why I am not totally amazed by this stuff.

HoloLens on the other hand is more "new". As RAM, CPU, and GPU move forward we will see much more advanced things in this area. With no need for these special headsets for some of the devices. Have seen some of this tech and it is pretty amazing. Currently
typical PC even would not handle it well. This is just the very early beginnings.

Then again, eventually we will have this all put together. Voice, HoloLens, things like that for very immersive worlds. Just a slow process that will be much bigger in 5-7 years. That is why I WILL support HoloLens. Just need the underlying tech that
will run it to improve enough to allow it.

That's the question I never get the answer to.....how does it make my experience better?

All I ever see is it being praised for changing settings, snapping, recording, navigating the UI or Netflix but what I never see is how it makes my gaming experience any better than if I was playing the game on another platform.

Not everyone uses Netflix, changes settings, snaps, records gameplay or takes screenshots but what every single one of us does is play games.....so the one thing that we all use our One for gains nothing from a piece of hardware that cost us money (those
of us who bought Day One) and uses resources that impacts the one thing we all do.

It caters to a few at the expense of the rest of us.

  12. He didn't answer anything, he'd make the perfect politician with that answer ;p

I hear that often. I try to 'be nice' about things and that IMO is why I get that comment. I could use a different approach, if you'd prefer...

It's black and white, not up for personal preferences or opinion. When you are playing a game the Kinect adds nothing to the gameplay ( with the exception of the Kinect only titles or a handful of titles with limited
    support ie Ryse, etc)

NO... it is not B&W. Kinect was developed as an experiment of sorts. They had the tech and wanted to see how it could be used, how it would evolve. In the aspect of gaming, what
you say is mostly true ("adds nothing"... opinion BTW). However where it has become more useful is typically in the aspect of UI navigation and a few other tasks.

If you're only willing to look down the narrow scope of 'when you are playing a game' the Kinect likely adds nothing. But you can't encompass or define it by what it adds to gaming
solely. It is beyond that. Narrowing it down to only the purposes that interest you... that, is absolutely and without doubt... a matter of preference. Whether you want to use it, or like it for its other functions... 100% preference.

I own an Xbox for the exclusives and I expect them to run those games to the best of it's ability and anything that prevents it from doing so needs to be justified by being useful.

    "justified" + "useful" = 100% opinion

As I've said numerous times before....I have (and most of you do to) a house full of devices that can do everything the One can do better with the exception of play it's exclusives and that should be it's priority.

You can say it as many times as you like, but the X1 is what it is. If you honestly and truly stand behind your opinion as staunchly as you appear to here, then you know that the
only way to make a statement that will 'be heard' is to vote with your wallet. You chose not to, in favor of having your exclusives. This is not the fault of anyone else.

    I'm ... and I approve this statement.

    Kinect required to use Cortana

It would be great to see a Cortana AI running on my Xbox 1 console. It's better with Kinect. Voice commands, gestures, sign in with it, console video chat, play games with it (well not all games support it), QR codes, voice chat. If you have a Kinect-less
console, you're missing out on what Xbox 1 fully has, to offer you. My phone can talk back to me, so I see no reason why Microsoft can't do the same for Xbox 1.

Randver obviously didn't watch the videos I linked. What does it add to Xbox gaming?

Well as soon as Cortana comes I can continue to keep playing my games and at the same time by voice see who is online and invite them to my party by voice all whilst continuing to play my game. Something that isn't being done on the current UI.

    Performance ?

Not the reason for 900p 1080p as we have seen plenty of devs achieve the same with titles on other platforms.

I guess Forza 5 and 6 didn't allow the ability for kinect to work to get that performance?

    @Rippen

I've watched all the videos. I apparently game differently than most of you. I don't send out invites once I'm in game, parties are set ahead of time and people join if they are interested in playing. It's irrelevant who's online if I'm playing a game.

I've had people on my friends list that send out random game invites without asking if I was even interested in playing which has always been an etiquette faux pas in my world of gaming.

I guess I don't get why you guys are apparently interacting with your dashboard features so much while you are playing a game. I just play the game.

I don't think we can even debate the fact anymore that the Kinect has impacted performance. You can rattle off the exclusives as not being impacted because we don't know what they would look like elsewhere but the multiplats are a different story.

My point is there is a cost to the Kinect being supported and is it worth it. For me and apparently many others the answer is no. If Win10 allows us to uninstall the software/drivers for the Kinect and we start seeing scaling games then I'll be very curious
how many of you continue to stand by the Kinect.
