Kinect not working as a mic for in-game Chat/Party.

Kinect works. Camera/detection is fine. Microphone is fine (Calibrated, and even commanded my xbox to bing "tacocat").

But it's not working in-game or in party chat..

What's up?

Kinect

I use Kinect as a mic for Ghosts but it has very big limitations. The Kinect in general has a setting that allows it to pick up your voice and use it as a mic if no mic is plugged in. This works on several games but not Ghosts. Ghosts does not recognize
the Xbones mic and will not try to use it. So you can use the mic to chat, but only if you are in a party. You can host a party switch to game chat and nothing will happen, it will not recognize the mic. But if you stick with party chat in a gamemode that
allows you to play with party chat, then you can chat with your party, but you will never be able to chat with the lobby using the Kinect in Ghosts, at least as of now and the current updates.

So there you have it, Use the Kinect for friends in a party, but no Kinect for game chat in ghosts. So looking forward to the adapter when it comes out for my headset.

If you are not using a kinect as a mic party chat will not reduce game sound, you then have power of voice volume through mic and game volume through television.

Before you consider getting it repaired or replaced. Follow this guide to remedy your problem. Generally this will fix the Kinect in-game.

Go to settings>kinect and turn kinect off. Then try party chat with someone and see if it uses the mic or not, It would be interesting to see if it works then.

The only thing to be aware of when using your kinect as a mic is placement of your Kinect. The mic can pick up the sounds from your TV (ie, the game and other people chatting with you) and will allow others to hear or will echo the party chat.

Hi Sean! Unfortunately, the Kinect does not work for Game Chat in all games, because not all game developers have chosen to include it as an option. For example, in CoD Ghosts, the Activision support team have confirmed, "Kinect does not work for in-game
chat because Ghosts is designed to require a dedicated microphone." In other words, a mic which isn't also receiving voice commands, etc.

Kinect WILL work for Party Chat in all games, if I'm not mistaken, because this goes through the Party App rather than the individual game programming. The best way to find out if Kinect game chat is supported by a specific game is to check the documentation
or developer website, because not all developers have chosen to program for the Kinect as a microphone, and it's not always easy to tell if it's working as you'd expect!
