Kinect Not Consistently Controlling TV

For a few months now, my Kinect has only been about 10% successful in controlling my TV, ie. on/off operations, volume control, etc., but I'm confident that my Kinect is ok because it still controls my cable box 100% of the time. I've readded my TV through
the settings a number of times using the automatic code search function with no change.

What else can I do?

Yes recalibrating seems to work for a few hours for me. Weird thing is it works for my wife all the time. Its driving me nuts because she walks in and says xbox ... And it works, but for me nothing.

It use to work for me all the time. Never had a problem before the update.

Crawpappy, thanks for updating your post with the positive results. I may have been an update that reset some of the settings that you had previously put in place. Regardless, glad that you now have it working properly.

Sorry you're having issues with your Kinect and TV controls. Have you tried re-positioning the Kinect? I know with my Kinect sometimes it gets pushed back just a bit and that can cause issues turning on my TV and/or receiver. If you've done that and you're
still having issues with it, I would suggest going through. Also, try using
this link to test your IR signal and other good troubleshooting steps.

 

What kind of TV are you using?

 

Hello, do you have Cortana enabled and are using the "hey Cortana" commands ? If so try turning Cortana off and use the regular "xbox" commands to test if your Kinect then has better control.

It's also a good choice to set up the Kinect again in the Kinect options on your Xbox One.

 

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. What's messing me up is that my cable box which is below the TV and recessed back into the entertainment unit a bit always works with the Kinect. Would repositioning it help? Same goes for Cortana. IF both stopped
working I'd probably try it, but if one always works that makes it hard to troubleshoot.

The TV is a 42" Philips, about 6 years old. Don't have the model number on hand.

 

It's IR, so re positioning can certainly help. Just because it can control one device, does not mean the IR blaster is making it to the other one. Also make sure the front of the Kinect is clean. With the link I posted you can go through the TV setup and
test your connection until it works. if you have SmartGlass you can enable the remote and use volume up and volume down, or power on /off to see if they work.

 

Thanks Hydro Skillet I'll give it a try. The smartglass app actually suffers the same issue with volume control.
