Kinect Microphone Calibration Does Not Play Calibration Sounds

My 360 will not let me perform the Kinect audio calibration. It checks the noise level and finds it to be okay. It then checks the volume level and finds it to be okay. But when it goes to play the calibration sounds, I get a message that the microphone
could not hear the calibration sounds. I believe it too because I don't hear them either. If I repeat the test a few times, I might hear part of one of the calibration sounds but most of the time, no sounds are made. I've tried to calibrate it using my
TV speakers as well as two different sets of speakers with two different receivers. The problem is definitely the Xbox or Kinect. However, even without calibration, my voice recognition and in game chat works. But during video Kinect sessions, the other
end can't hear me.

My hypothesis is that the calibration sound files or the calibration exe file is corrupt. However, Ive been unable to find away to reinstall the OS or firmware from scratch. I've formatted the HDD and tried the "reset codes" but those have not even changed
any settings that I can detect, little lone changed anything to default. I am at my wits end with this thing. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be great appreciated.
