Kinect-less Xbox One available from June 9.

    @ Lofty

Agree with everything you say. I too invested up front to get the 'full experience' (which is arriving piecemeal unfortunately).

For all of you other early adopters consider this:

MS have to get volume into the market place to keep a flow of new developments (Games and Apps) from third party developers. If they don't, they lose out (in $s)and we lose out (in choice).

They now have to really make Kinect worth investing in, it has cost them a lot of money to get it this far, there are a lot of them out there and they will have to work hard to incentivise customers to buy one as an add on either by price or (and this could
be good for early investors?) by adding some 'gotta have' functionality.

I am happy with my purchase (I am getting happier as more anticipated features roll out), I am also happy that Microsoft are reacting to market issues to ensure the Xbox One remains relevant in the market. Markets are fickle things, and, unfortunately,
in this particular area market forces are driven by the mass, 'lowest common denominator' customer rather than those wanting a 'Rolls Royce' solution (and price!)

    @ Ignite,

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but yes I am a little disappointed, I feel now less optimistic about it's future even though I'm not saying it's dead and buried. I still think there will be developers that will make use of it, after all there's still
( if the figures are correct ) around 5 million XB1 + Kinects out there.

I've said it time and time again, Microsoft were in a situation where they were dammed if they do, dammed if they don't. People like me wanted it to remain part of the package but there were 1000s and 1000s out there that wanted it only as an option. At
the end of the day Microsoft are like any other company, it's all about sales and money and if they think by making it optional it would/will increase sales then I guess it was always going to happen at some point.

At the end of the day I'm still personally very optimistic for XB1 future, I think they have a stunning line up of games out and yet to be released, hopefully there will be some that will use Kinect, whether Kinect only games or optional within the game,
if not I guess it's tough luck but again, it's not something I will be losing sleep over.

I was merely questioning your statement that of brands like Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony etc, Microsoft is the one with the "huge fanbase", when clearly it has the smallest fanbase.

It is your opinion. It isn't factual, but it is your opinion. I saw nothing at E3 even remotely relevant to that.

I don't really want to discuss that, I fully respect that you may have differing opinions to me. Besides, fanbase & E3 would be a little off topic in a thread about the latest in a long line of 180's.

Not once have I said Microsoft has the largest fanbase. It is simply an observation at the moment. Their fanbase is more expressed at the moment, so to speak. Also the statements I posted early about recent years are facts, not opinions.

It's better to invest in the Xbox 1 with Kinect. Microsoft can easily charge more than US$100 for a stand alone Xbox 1 Kinect. In NZ, they still have an RRP price of NZ$179 for the Xbox 360 Kinect and the standalone Xbox 1 console is RRP NZ$599 or for the
console with Kinect, RRP NZ$749 even though some authorized retailers here are selling it a bit below the RRP. Kinect is very cool. A Kinect-less console means you pay less for, well..... less....., and if you decide to get the Kinect, you would have wished
you got the Xbox 1 with Kinect to save you money from buying a stand alone Kinect.

The kinectless console is going to sell well. I'm pleased its been done, my 9 year old son want's the X1 for xmas which is no problem now, before though was different, my wife didn't like the idea of him having one before because of kinect, there are to
many pervs out there as it is and giving kids easy access to video chat is a concern for parents. Now I know there is precautions you can take but alot of parents aren't aware, so this would of put a lot of parents off over the last year

It just gives people who completely don't want Kinect the opportunity to buy the console without it and those who don't want to, or can't pay the extra $$$ for a console.

Kinect is a cool thing though. Have fun scanning QR codes the sensor can read them with complete ease even if you're sitting 5 metres away and just raise your hand with the Xbox QR code on it. Games will have Kinect features maybe even some apps. Voice Commands,
and hand gestures. And Skype. And you can use it to chat on Xbox Live without having to use a mic. I still think it is wise to invest in the console with Kinect. Microsoft can charge what they want for a stand alone Kinect if you have a change of mind/heart.
Authorized retailers are beginning to sell it slightly below the RRP.
