Discus and support Kinect-less Xbox One available from June 9. in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; They'll have to implement something along the lines of double tapping the xbox button to replace "record that". Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by Boas BS5, May 13, 2014.

  3. there is an article on all the gaming sites saying that microsoft is now going to optimise the console for graphics now that they droped kinect as 10% or the ram gets put aside for kinect so if they are going to do this what will that mean if you have kinect
dos that mean the resolution will be a bit lower if you still use kinect as the kinect needs this to operate

  5. The button sequence is an idea I would back to the end of time. People less able to speak could really use this function. I mean aside the voice trigger for 'Xbox Record That', the Kinect isn't required to pull that off is it? I wont be unplugging mine regardless.
I have grown rather fond of it.

  7. Thanks dude! I am happy with that. To be honest, I would be more concerned if MS stopped supporting it as much rather than game devs. Though I do now doubt that we will see a Kinect on next gen consoles (by that, I mean Xbox Two or what ever it will be called).

Xbox 2? By MS logic it will be calld the xbox minus 500.

As i have said without that big AAA kinect only title it was always going to struggle.

I agree Boas, it needed a AAA title from the start, who knows one might still come but if it would have had one at launch maybe some would have been a little more keen on it.

I will always prefer to sit on my comfy chair, joypad, cup of tea and play my games but even with games like Kinect Sport Rivals, not the greatest title ever made but a few nights back we had a few friends around, all having a mess about on it and it was
great giggle, just adds a little variety to what I would usually play or how I play.

Again though it really does need a AAA title to gain more support, or interest.

Is anyone else pretty peeved off by this?

I am an incredibly loyal xbox customer - loved the 360 - went through three of them due to breakages. Bought an xbox one in February with Titanfall, which I think is a great game. But suddenly they announce that they are removing kinetic - isn't this punishing
    early adopters?

    @ Ignite,

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but yes I am a little disappointed, I feel now less optimistic about it's future even though I'm not saying it's dead and buried. I still think there will be developers that will make use of it, after all there's still
( if the figures are correct ) around 5 million XB1 + Kinects out there.

I've said it time and time again, Microsoft were in a situation where they were dammed if they do, dammed if they don't. People like me wanted it to remain part of the package but there were 1000s and 1000s out there that wanted it only as an option. At
the end of the day Microsoft are like any other company, it's all about sales and money and if they think by making it optional it would/will increase sales then I guess it was always going to happen at some point.

At the end of the day I'm still personally very optimistic for XB1 future, I think they have a stunning line up of games out and yet to be released, hopefully there will be some that will use Kinect, whether Kinect only games or optional within the game,
if not I guess it's tough luck but again, it's not something I will be losing sleep over.

Agree with everything you say. I too invested up front to get the 'full experience' (which is arriving piecemeal unfortunately).

For all of you other early adopters consider this:

MS have to get volume into the market place to keep a flow of new developments (Games and Apps) from third party developers. If they don't, they lose out (in $s)and we lose out (in choice).

They now have to really make Kinect worth investing in, it has cost them a lot of money to get it this far, there are a lot of them out there and they will have to work hard to incentivise customers to buy one as an add on either by price or (and this could
be good for early investors?) by adding some 'gotta have' functionality.

I am happy with my purchase (I am getting happier as more anticipated features roll out), I am also happy that Microsoft are reacting to market issues to ensure the Xbox One remains relevant in the market. Markets are fickle things, and, unfortunately,
in this particular area market forces are driven by the mass, 'lowest common denominator' customer rather than those wanting a 'Rolls Royce' solution (and price!)

    @ Major,

I think when compared to XB1 main rival then sales probably not so good.

Forgetting it's main rival though, up to yet XB1 has sold more than the 360 did in the same time period so not too bad, especially when you take into account that XB1 has only been released in 13 countries I believe?

Which reminds me, XB1 was delayed in other regions because of Kinect? wonder now if they will bring the release date forward for XB1 in these areas and then just release Kinect at a later date?
