Kinect keeps turning off/not working

Looking for info advice for my Kinect. I got it so I could skype with my family. It worked great for a couple years. Now it almost never turns on. When I do use it with Skype it turns off mid conversion and my xbox tells me my webcam is being used by another
program. Not sure what program that is but I now can't use it.

I've already tried unplugging it, waiting and then plugging it in again. That maybe fixes it for a few minutes then it disconnects the video from the call as usual.

Anyone else having this problem? I was sent here by Skype when I posted there about the problems

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this issue. Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Kinect. You may wish to try the troubleshooting available in our support article entitled

Troubleshoot issues with the Xbox One Kinect Sensor. If you're using a Kinect with a 360 console, then you'd refer to Video Kinect on Xbox 360.

Please give the troubleshooting that relates to you a try and let us know the results.

Thanks for your response. To further troubleshoot this issue, try a Soft Factory Reset on your Xbox One. As long as you have your Microsoft account email and password, you can reset the console to factory setting while keeping your games and applications
installed. After the reset is complete you will only need to reconnect to the internet and sign back in to use the Xbox. Here's how to do so:

Reset Xbox One to Factory Defaults, be sure to select the option to "Reset and keep my games & apps" to properly perform a soft reset.

Didn't help. During the middle of a Skype call the camera froze, other end of the call lost our video and I got the same message saying the camera is being used by another application.

I was told by MS support that it should be placed in an open area not to close to objects or heat. They don't recommend opening it up, but do recommend making sure the venting is clean. Blowing it out with compressed air is not recommended by staff, but
vacuum hose is sufficient to blow dirt out of it.

I do think the software should be changed for the fan operation, where the fan is on whenever the unit is on. I do think it is possible to have the settings of it changed where it is possible to manually configure it to the needs of the user.

It appears that there is an intermittent Kinect driver issue, which turns it on, off and calibrates it. Yesterday I found there was a problem of Kinect sign in, giving me a code 0x80a40008, but also noticed there was an issue of the Kinect working properly.
I did a hard reset, and factory reset, but when I did a factory reset, the Kinect refused to calibrate before I entered my sign in information (it should calibrate the Kinect before the sign in info is entered, not after). I redid the factory reset which then
it calibrated the Kinect before I entered my sign in info.

With the Kinect drivers, it turns it on through software (not hardware switching) as well as overall function of it. Persistent cashe might be part of the problem, where the cashe is overloading the driver function, but I think the driver in the Kinect might
be the sole source of the problem, where the drivers in the console and in the Kinect don't communicate well. Might need a revision of the driver software in both the Kinect and console to resolve the problem.
