Kinect is killing the Xbox One.

you're no more forced into having a Kinect, than i was forced into having a headset and a sticker, it comes in the box, if you don't like it then sell it.

Nope it's killing them, they waste revenue creating shovelware, the games don't sell well and companies make less money, If Kinect is so good name one killer game, why is there no Kinect CoD or Halo game....

 

Microsoft: Cool Stuff Still Planned For Xbox One Kinect

I was so sad, when I bought my Xbox One, they didn't have the Assassins with Kinect 2, so didn't get it, cause it was about the time they were un-officially killing Kinect.

I was hoping for a revitalized Kinect 3 for Xbox One.

[/quote]I don't know where you got the impression that I dislike the Kinect. But technically you are forced into having the Kinect. There's some people who are paying an extra $100 for something they don't want. The point I was trying to make in this thread
was the X1 would sell better if it didn't come with the Kinect.

It is a chicken and egg problem. MS has decided to ensure everyone has a Kinect so that no dev can say, "but we didn't want to waste time adding support for something only a few people have."

If the Xbox One was $500 and didn't come with Kinect you think it would sell more units?

Your supposition is tied directly to an assumption that Kinect raised the price of the console kit by $100. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't, maybe MS didn't want to take a loss on the hardware this time around. The fact is you don't know so stop assuming.

Your assertion is also short sighted. Component prices and sizes come down over time. Eventually, a Kinect-enabled console will cost the same as the competition. At that point having Kinect will be a definite advantage, as will having a developer base that
has had time to work with the sensor.

 

Come on guys. Don't start this up again. We all been down this path. One such thread went for 20 pages. Please move on.

But look at all the AAA titles last gen(i.e. Halo, COD, AC, BF, and etc). They did perfectly fine without Kinect support.

subscriber time is spent watching video, and that number is not to the detriment of gameplay time.

Last gen the mantra was HD. This gen the mantra is more realism and a new control scheme. Kinect is very useful outside gaming. People use their consoles for more than just gaming.

 

Dude, I have doubt that you firmly believe with all your heart that the Xbox One would be more successful without a mandatory kinect. But the fact of the matter, you simply want that to be true. There is no evidence suggesting that it is. Microsoft is killing
it right now and laughing all the way to the bank. It doesn't matter what happened last gen. That was then, this is now.

 

My xbox one came with a controller, a headset and an HDMI cable, damnit microsoft what is wrong with you stop forcing this crap down our throats! UGHHHHHH MICRO$$$$$OFT UGHHHHHH.

Either way. Saying "xbox record that" is one of my favourite features with the Kinect. Glad it's there.

The Kinect is the reason why the Xbox One is less powerful. Even though it's not a lot of the GPU that is being held back for the Kinect and OS regardless it still matters. Microsoft put so much concentration on the Kinect and because of this they weren't
as focus on games and power for the console. It makes the games perform less(i.e. 30fps, lower resolution, etc).

Don't get me wrong the Xbox One is selling good for $500 console. I just think it would be more successful if it didn't come with the Kinect.

They dropped HD-DVD's because Sony decided that were going to stop selling them and sell only blu-ray. Basically, they just decided they were going to win the format war and made it so. You think that same logic applies to a wildly successful product that

Me saying the Kinect is $100 isn't an assumption. It's fact. Microsoft thought $500 was worth it for what the Xbox One had. They were obviously referring to Kinect. Do you really think Microsoft would make an underpowered console and sell it for more than
what the competition is selling their console for? They needed a reason to make the X1 $500. And that reason was Kinect. That's why they thought it was worth the price.

As Microsoft drops their price, so will the competition. The day Microsoft decides to sell an Xbox One bundle(without Kinect) I can guarantee it's sales will increase significantly.
