Kinect is failing.

Camhawk, Thanks for the IHS link. That web site will come in handy in the future on other subjects. It looks way more lagit than ign and not bias. There estimate says the kinect costs $75 but it is a estimate, the real cost is probably close to it any were
from $70-$80.

your "peaceful middle ground" renders kinect 2.0 an accessory. just as kinect 1.0 is. You want kinect 2.0 to be as useless as kinect 1.0? make it an accessory.

And that is what you are after anyways. You folks are now so invested in kinect failing, I think that is part of your plan....get MS to cave, turn it into an accessory, and you will have your failed kinect.

Wild, MS isn't losing money on their console - also, Sony's console has absolutely no bearing on this discussion whatsoever, so stop trying to make people think it does.

 

Microsoft and/or developers could add many more outstanding games/apps that make use of the kinect 2.0 in really cool ways....still going to get complainers and haters.

 

^ Correct. People need to understand that the Kinect is not going to be for everyone. Whether the Kinect has 100 Kinect-only games or whether the Kinect works 100% of the time, the thing is people will still complain. People would
still complain if Microsoft priced the Xbox One, and bundled the Kinect free.

yup and there is no reason they still couldn't make all those games your talking about, if they gave the game creaters the option to use the 10% processing power, for there game as they chose instead for kinect. You could have the best of both kinect games
and normal games if MS finds a way to allow game developers to use 100% of the xbox ones power.

 

MS is already going to be giving the developers the choice of how to use the processing power.

hmm I found a report on xbox one in late jan that says they are going to make a patch for kinect to use 2% instead of 10%. By taking out the reserved 8% video feature for kinect. hmm that might do it, why didn't you say so? you just found it out to I take

Actually, MS is losing money on the X1.

I read somewhere with a link provided on these forums a while back that someone with MS said they were practically giving Kinect away at the price of the console. That if they took out Kinect, the price of the console would be about $350.

 

Actually ms make $30 on each console, and sony loose about the same. I read it somewhere.

This was one of a few articles basically about Microsoft giving developers extra GPU power, I've not read it all but at the start it says ... "In future" .. so not actually sure if it's available to developers now.

 

MS would have sold loads more if they had a Kinect Sku at launch, Kinect has cost them a lot gamers, I know quite a few that have went to PS this time, if you ask them if and when they're getting an Xbox One, same answer every time, when they have a Kinectless

As posted above, people need to understand that not everyone likes Kinect, I agree, but it seems MS missed that somewhere along the line.

 

People need to understand without Kinect the X1 would just be a PC (just like PS4) hence many of us wouldn't buy it without full-Kinect commitment by MS.
