Kinect IR Blaster on One S Disabled

Just wondering how many other people have noticed this...(and personally it's annoying the hell out of me..and the wife (which is even worse!).

I decided to upgrade my One to a One S, and ordered the free connector so I could keep using Kinect. I use Kinect ALOT - usually for play / pause / volume up etc. I'm pretty lazy and this saves me having to hunt for remotes etc. Anyway, plugged in the shiny
new console and Kinect only to find out that the voice commands were being recognized, but no signal was being received by the intended device. I did a bit of digging and following Microsoft's recommendations (hold a cell phone camera up to Kinect and see
three white dots. Issue a command and another flashes) I found out that the "flashing" white dot did not appear. That means Kinect is not sending the IR signal to devices. I moved the console out into the open and lo and behold it worked, and the devices were
being controlled. So....what's happening is that the IR blaster on the One S is disabling / overriding the IR Blaster on Kinect.

I know Kinect is pretty much dead, but Microsoft advertising that I can still use Kinect should mean that I can still use Kinect how I used to. I really hope they introduce some kind of a toggle option. Can't be too difficult.,can it?

So as a warning to people who are thinking of upgrading to a One S...you might want to delay any "upgrades" if you use Kinect to control devices and you keep your Xbox hidden away.

    :)

  2. Xbox Does Not Turn on TV

Hi, if it is an Original Xbox One you would need an IR blaster, like the one built into kinect. If it is an S or X the IR blaster is built in.

    kinects ir interference

My turtlebeach x3's will not work whilexbox one kinects ir blaster is on because my turtlebeach x3's also use the ir frequencies.. so i was hoping that in a future update the ir blaster. would only come on when i need it.such as changing channels and turning
onmy tv and cable box .. then the ir blaster would just turn off when not in use. just like regular ir remote would. I hope someone sees this and addresses this problem soonKinect IR Blaster on One S Disabled :).

    A/V power options

EDIT: You could get an IR extension cable: https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/oneguide-live-tv/use-external-ir-with-xbox-one

    Original Post:

The Xbox One S and X models have the Infrared Blaster built in, as Microsoft decided to make Kinect an optional accessory.

Since the original Xbox One initially came bundled with Kinect, the console didn't need an additional IR Blaster built in. The Kinect had an IR emitter already for the depth measuring, so it made sense to put the IR blaster into Kinect.

So without Kinect, the original Xbox One can't control your A/V equipment.

Xbox One S has the IR blaster built into the front. But yes the original “VCR” Xbox One requires Kinect

The Real Reason Your Controllers Disconnected

It's not so much the actual camera seeing you it's more to do with the IR blaster on the Kinect and the IRs on the controller being out of sight. This is the way the One determines controller 1, 2, 3 and 4...even with 1 controller the Kinect likes to keep
it in view of the IR blaster.
