Kinect gestures will not work with new Xbox experience

This might be old news to some but it's the first I've read about it.

The New Xbox One Experience does not use Kinect's motion-control gestures.

It seems that Microsoft has decided that not enough users were utilising Kinect's motion features with the Xbox One dashboard, so are not bothering to use them anymore.

"On gestures, when we looked at the New Xbox One Experience we wanted to prioritise features that customers were asking for, plus areas of improvement from the existing Xbox One UI,’

    according to Microsoft’s Mike Yabarra
    .

"Then, we wanted to look at the use-case model of features that take a lot of investment and say, ‘is it worth continuing to invest in that area?

"With gestures, the reality was the usage was very, very low. So for now, we’ve cut that from the New Xbox One Experience. So when we launch on the 12th, they won’t be in the product. We’ll continue to monitor and listen to feedback to see if people
    want them in."

So what of Kinect then? What will be it's use in the future? At the moment we use the voice controls for actions such as "Xbox Record That" or to "Take a Screenshot," while other people I have asked use it to "Scan a Code," but that seems to be about
    its only use these days.

Apparently there are rumours of headsets soon becoming compatible with voice commands, which would just about render the camera useless, which makes you wonder why it was bundled with the console in the first place.

It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft comes up with a way to revitalise Kinect in the future, but at this time, it seems like it's another piece of technology that people didn't take too.

    :)

To get Xbox One with Kinect or Not?

XB1 with Kinect = the complete XB1 experience. Some may not use it as much, but there are tons of uses for it. The voice commands and gestures work very well IMO. Also, I use my a lot for Xbox Fitness, and the auto sign in is nice as well.

    Automatic sign-in WITHOUT Kinect?

I installed the Kinect and recognition works very well, too well, cause when it doesn't see me and my wife walks before the Kinect, it changes the system to her account Kinect gestures will not work with new Xbox experience :)

I only want a smoother experience with the gestures

Gesture Control has never worked for me since day one. The Voice Controls I still use pretty much Screen/ Record (never Codes though).

On occasions I have used the "Go To X" but honestly there has not been enough worth-wild Games to be using that on. I typically have about two at any given time for as long as months. Both will be right at the bottom of my Games, so no need for Voice with that.

  6. Personally, I think having voice commands activated via headset is a bad idea, as someone like me (being hearing-impaired can't really use it effectively). I think it would be a better idea to keep voice commands with the Kinect sensor, or perhaps to release
a much cheaper, camera-less version of the Kinect.

Don't think I've onced used the gesture feature and including the Kinect at launch was always going to be a big mistake.

I like Kinect, I think it worked well with some games but as soon as they made it optional I think the likelihood of developers using it in future games dwindled away fast.

Having said that, looking back I do agree with Mr Woodbine, including it from the start was a mistake and no doubt affected sales because there's a lot of people that just didn't want it so decided against the purchase so it would have been better to make
    it optional from the start.

Got to be honest though, even though I do like it, come in handy for voice commands, scanning codes etc I haven't plugged mine back in since I got my 1TB console. Weird because 6 months back I couldn't imagine the console without it, now I can quite happily
    live without it.

  10. I don't use mine all that much anymore, but I do still use it for some voice commands.

I've actually wished you could turn off the camera and use it for voice only... the gesture thing never did work very well and half the time it would think I was 'gesturing' if I leaned forward to grab a drink or something. What made it worse was, then you
couldn't get the thing to stop tracking your hand.

It even thought my dog was my hand once, when it jumped up on my lap... nothing abut my hand even remotely resembles a 25lb Boston Terrier...

  12. Thanks for that post. I had just purchased a kinect to use with my xb1 and have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out why I cant activate gesture control, now I know why.

I didn`t intend using it for gaming, the two main reasons wer voice and gesture control and now theyve quietly dropped gesture control, what a con!
