Kinect - Cycles Itself Off

Have had the Kinect since announcement day of the Xbox One, never a problem and understands Cortana commands just fine.

Recently I've noticed it turns itself off, then back on, then off, then back on, finally stays off. No Cortana commands are recognized when off. Only way to have it come back on is to perform a Power Off of the Xbox One. It comes back on, but then
after a while begins to cycle on and off again - sometimes it doesn't cycle on/off, it just turns off.

I know it's off because all the lights on the Kinect are off and the Icon on the Dashboard shows the Off-Icon. Almost appears as if it is going to "Sleep". In these rare cases, voice command - "Hey Cortana" wakes it up for a while.

It's behaving very strangely!

Happened recently after latest Insider Update.

Also, try unplugging the Kinect from the Xbox One and do a power cycle on the Xbox. (hold power button for 10 seconds until it turns off by itself. you should see the green boot screen when you turn it back on)

 

Kinect keeps turning off or won't start after last update

I am having the same issue. Kinect turns off or is not registered by console. Unplug Kinect and rep lug and it comes on. In Xbox fitness Kinect will cycle on and off or just shut down completely.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Kinect. Have you attempted any of the steps on the

Xbox One Kinect Troubleshooter page?

Give those steps a shot and please let us know how it goes!

 

OK Miss Ghidorah,- thanks for the quick reply. I am going to try the steps outlined on the Xbox One Kinect Troubleshooter page that you suggested. Originally, I just did a hard reboot, but not disconnected the power brick from the Xbox One, etc. I did disconnect
the Kinect after performing the hard reboot and then reconnected it. So far it appears fine, but if it recurs, I'm going to follow the troubleshooter steps exactly as outlined in the article and let yo know.

 

I have faced similar issues with Kinect and continue to face them. Once I do the steps mentioned by Miss Ghidorah, it stays fine for a couple of days and it again starts doing the same. This tells me that it is not a hardware problem since Kinect is fine
for the day or two when I perform the steps. Both me and my brother-in-law have faced similar issues with our respective Kinect. It is particularly annoying when we are on Skype and the video just turns off. Please help!!!

 

I had this problem and it was a simple kinect fail, Microsoft hooked me up with a swap. Just give them a call 1800 4 my Xbox good luck bud.

 

I'm having the same problem. I finally got it to power up but it keeps going off and on. I don't think its a problem with the sensor, but something else. Please look into this issue as soon as possible. I would like to be able to use my Kinect again.

Rishster, FrAnK SiXeR, & JimBaby57 - If all of you have followed the instructions outlined in the

Kinect Sensor article and your Kinect still isn't working, then unfortunately, you will have to request a repair.

I had the same problem, figured it was a software issue since I had no problems previously. But after getting it replaced at the MS Store (thank you extended warranty), I haven't had a single Kinect reboot since. So it seems it was a hardware issue - and
the tech at the store said he's seen it before, replacing the Kinect always fixes it.

 

I had the same problem: The Kinect on my XBox One would turn off randomly, sometimes multiple times a day. Unplugging the Kinect from the XB and then plugging it back in always turned the Kinect back on, but this is (obviously) not a fix.

Then it occurred to me that it might be a power issue. My XBox One and Kinect were plugged into an APC Back-UPS 1500. So, I plugged them directly into the wall outlet instead of the UPS and the problem went away! The Kinect hasn't turned off since.

I think it might be due to the way that the UPS handles power. I've since discovered that the APC Back-UPS line uses sine wave approximation, whereas the APC Smart-UPS line uses a pure sine wave. I just purchased an APC Smart-UPS (which is MUCH more expensive)
to see if that solves the problem.

So far, so good: no Kinect turning off randomly. We'll see if it fixes the problem long term.
