kinect as a mic

So the kinect is a really horrible mic not only does it have echo and you can hear the persons TV half the time and their whole family its just really bad there should be an option to ignore all people who are using kinect as a mic

Xbox One comes with Kinect it can be used as a mic. If you don't want to use Kinect as a mic then buy a headset. I have no problem using Kinect as a mic.

lol! I love it. It's suppose to be better than the Xbox 360 Kinect it has a higher resolution. I don't have Kinect for Xbox 360 I see no point in investing in it, But I have the Xbox 1 Day One edition console with Kinect. I didn't even start using the mic
that I got with the console until 2 weeks ago. Sure sometimes Kinect doesn't easily pick up your voice. That's why you use a loudhailer. Just kidding.... wonder what that would sound like. If you're an oldy, you would probably mute us XD. You can even use
the thing in certain games, voice commands, console video chat, gestures, QR codes. Don't get me started on 'I broke my mic' or 'I lost it' or 'it's charging'. But Kinect is completely wireless, there is no wires or anything to have to wear on your head or
hands, in order to voice chat.

 

The "mute all" feature is dependent on the game. I know in Plants vs. Zombies you can just hit "Y" in the lobby and it will mute everyone.

^same. Unless it's a friend who I know is only using it as a temp mic. Randoms with kinect mics I usually mute.

This is true. However I usually turn off the area chat in ESO. There are just too many people for me to bother with it.

 

Well, you guys who have me on your friends lists should remove me immediately then, because I use the Kinect sensor for chat almost exclusively. I have 2 regular headsets and a stereo headset, but the former is not loud enough for me to effectively hear
you and the latter is incompatible with my hearing aids and causes a horrendously loud feedback whistle in my ear (which would be far worse for you guys, if I were to use the headset BTW). That being said, since I've used the Kinect sensor for so long, I've
learned of ways to get around a lot of its issues, such as the echoes. For starters, proper calibration and setup is needed. Secondly, volume levels need to be at an appropriate level that's relative to the distance and location of the Kinect sensor - and
not just for you, but for other players as well. I often find that the echoes often come from the other players because it's their audio setup (e.g., speakers) that's too loud. Trust me when I say that if it's that loud, you'll be wearing hearing aids soon
enough too.

A lot of my friends have also grown accustomed to me using it and know that if it ever causes them issue, they can let me know what the problem is so that I may take steps to fix it (and it's worked wonders in the past for "figuring it out").

I can understand why many of you can't stand those of us who use it, due to its drawbacks or the ignorant use of it, but in a way, I feel bad for you - you're missing out on a lot of really nice people out there as a result of their hardware, simply because
you don't want to do the work that is necessary to solve the problem. You're all taking the easy way out... If they were a jerk online or something I could understand that, but it's not even about them! At all! That's just... *SMH*

 

GG I was used to you using it but then you removed me. However, I do think you use it responsibly and .....I think most of us tolerate people who use Kinect mics responsibly. The responsibility to do that and solve these problems lies in the hands of
the people who choose use it. I feel bad for them. They're missing out on a lot of cool people because they don't want to do the work to do that. If anyone would ask for help I'd gladly help them and follow the tips you've pointed out but they have to want
help. I'm sure by the time I play with most of them it's not the first time they've been told by a lobby full of players they're hard to hear, make others hard to hear or overtake the airwaves.

Really it's not about Kinect at all, I'm sure most here commenting would mute anyone who's mic problems make it hard to have a conversation whether they use kinect or a mic. If you can't hear people you can't hear them and if it's too bad then you gotta
do what you gotta do until it's sorted.

 

I used the Kinect for chat in my opinion it is terrible much better with a mic.

Therein lies the problem. First there is complacency, followed by just plain inconsideration, then finished up by those who just want to irritate people. My guess is that those who actually don't realize their Kinect
sounds like someone threw a 1980's arcade game into a metal barrel full of lunatics, are likely a small percentage of the whole.

JMPO, but the Kinect (as a replacement mic for online gaming) was not and is not ready for the general public. I say this because, just as you allude to, it takes "work" to make it tolerable and operate properly for
online gaming. Most people may be willing to do a few things or make a few adjustments in settings, that are quick and easy to do as well as quick and easy to find, in order to make it work well... and TBH... that's all it should take in order for it to be
successful. Any more than that and many people won't bother. In my experience, there are plenty who don't bother and I have no reluctance, nor single regret for insta-muting them. Quite simply, because it is their responsibility.
