Kinect adapter production officially stopped (for ever) - I want my money back!

Hello there,

I'm trying for a while now to get my hands on a Kinect adapter for a
reasonable price.

I was asking the support-chat every here and there and they told me to wait. There are a lot of people who are asking for the adapter so production probably will restart soon.

So I waited - until today I read this news:

Microsoft discontinues Xbox One Kinect adapter

The huge problem about this is the following:

When the original Xbox one launched, you were somewhat forced to buy it including Kinect and therefore payed additional ~50€/$.

To be fair, there was a short period of time when the Xbox One S released, when you could get a adapter for free. That was a good service.

But if you skipped the One S and directly upgraded to a One X, you don't have this option anymore.

Wasn't one of the big promises behind the One X that "every additional hardware sill can be used"?

Controllers, Headsets...and Kinect?

It's not my fault as a customer that you a) didn't develop Kinect with a regular USB connection in the first place or b) developed the One S and One X with an integrated Kinect-Port like the original Xbox One.

This all leaves me with two options.

1. I can try to buy an overpriced adapter and pay additional 100-300€/$

2. I throw this still perfectly working camera to the trash, because there is no point in keeping it anymore.

That is why I demand some kind of Cash back from Microsoft.

For example: Give me a coupon for a free Webcam (not some cheap stuff) that I can use on my Xbox/PC via USB so I can Video-Skype again etc.

I don't see why I myself should spend the money for a Kinect replacement. It's not my fault.

Apparently Microsoft has officially
discontinued production of the Kinect adapters.

The only options left are to find the adapters by third-party sellers online (Amazon, eBay, etc) or get an original Xbox One console.

 

No cable support for kinect

You will need a Kinect adapter to play Kinect games on the Xbox One S/X. However, Microsoft discontinued production of the Kinect adapter about a month or two ago.

If you want to play Xbox One Kinect games, you have two options:

• Get an adapter from a third-party seller on Amazon, eBay, etc. Practically all retail stores have been cleared of adapters.
• Get an original Xbox One console, probably used. Those consoles have a Kinect port on the back so you don't need an adapter.

You can't blame Microsoft, they announced in October that the kinect was to discontinue. Scalpers bought everything they could, to make a quick big profit, if nobody buys then they will be stuck and hopefully want to ditch them for as little a loss as possible.

 

Uh, yes, we can. I would never suggest that they be forced to continue supporting a product they feel is unsuccessful. But you do not get to remove compatibility from a product, then preach about how compatibility is important to you as a company without
hearing about how people are upset to lose a function of their device. Kinects this gen have never been cheap. MS chose to work against the consumer (yet again this generation) and they are not absolved from the repercussions. They made so many great strides
after the initial blow up, that you'd think they'd have learned. This is not a positive thing for anyone except the scalpers.

 

Announcing to discontinue the Kinect camera and to stop production of the adapter are two separate things.

The first thing doesn't imply that already existing Kinects are de facto useless now.

But yes, it's a small hope that those Scalpers will ditch the adapters sooner or later. Doesn't help me right now it I want to Video-Chat with my Family...

 

Yea, I wanted to use the chat, but it was not available for whatever reason. And I'm not interested in handing on hold at some hotline for half an hour.

So I made this angry post to the forums

I just wish there was a clear, easy to find contact form like in the old days...

 

just want to say if you got the skills and go to youtube there are video's on there, showing you how you can make up an adapter yourself. If I had seen this video's before I would have followed them rather than spend £119
for the adapter. The parts are readily available.

You need a 12v 1..5a powersupply

a female power socket for the male adapter

Btw. I "talked" to the support-chat. They said "We know the Polygon article, but it's nothing official by Microsoft".

Then I contacted the author of the article who said, he was quoting "an on-the-record statement emailed to me by Microsoft, the company.", so ti actually
was an official source/statement.

 

The Thing with Chat support is they know as much as we do. You probably spoke to someone sitting in their room in india and reeling off a manual and employed by a subsidiary of Microsoft. you need to contact a proper Microsoft store employee, who would probably
give you a better answer.

 

It is supported though, legacy commands are still part of the OS. So nobody is losing anything. I stand by my statement, those that bought stock to over inflate for a quick profit, are to blame for the lack of cables.

 

Well, I asked him for a better contact-address and he said something like "WE are the support - if we don't know it, nobody does".

It's just very disappointing that it's so hard to get a "clear" answer. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand ist doing. I don't see a way to contact a "proper" employee, just random henchmen...

I bought a kinect for my xbo one X but the cable is not provided and can not be found in stores.

How can I get this cable?

Is there not a way to get it via Microsoft?

goto to ebay and pay over inflated price for it, as production has stopped on the adapters or look for a diy video, or wait till a 3rd party decides to make them.
