Kinect adadpter not working properly on Xbox One X

I upgraded from an original Xbox One to an Xbox One X, so I had to buy the Kinect adapter so that I could use my Kinect. However, the adapter is not working properly. I have to wobble the plug around in the USB port for Kinect to be recognised, and if the
cable is accidentally knocked/moved, that can cause the Kinect to disconnect and I have to wobble the USB plug around again to get it working.

I have tried other USB devices in the same port and they work just fine without intermittent connection issues, so it doesn't seem to be the port on the console that's at fault.

The cable that runs from the little box that's part of the adapter to the console is a USB type B to USB type A cable, so I bought a replacement one of those, but when I use that, Kinect isn't recognised at all, no matter how much I wobble the plug around
in the USB port.

Any idea what's going on here? The retailer has no more stock of the adapters, so I'm unable to get it replaced.

- Kinect was connected to the adapter
and the adapter into a USB port on the back of
the console (kinect was
recognized by the system and worked properly)
- after an upgrade unfortunately kincet
stopped working - in some games it works properly
but it can not be set up and
the system displays information to connect
Kinect - please help, what might
be the cause - exclude defect of
devices because some games work
properly - I tested troubleshooting

kinect just stopped turning on.

my kinect just stopped working one day. the kinect is plugged in properly, the kinect is turned on in settings. how can the kinect sensor just stop working with no warning? tried turning everything off and unplugging everything for a few minutes, plugging
everything back in and turning it on. kinect still not turning on.

 

So I read a couple of reviews from people who had the same issue as me and one guy mentioned that using a USB 3.0 extension cable worked, so I bought one and, surprisingly, it did work. I disconnected and reconnected the USB plug from the console several
times and Kinect came on every time, so I no longer needed to wobbly the USB plug around before it would work.

 

I have exactly the same problem as yourself, unfortunately the support team aren't being very helpful and are suggesting I should return it to the place of purchase (which is pointless as it's out of stock everywhere).

 

I’m curious, when you were having the issue was the light on the Kinect power adapter white and all the lights on your Kinect were turned off?

 

Yep.

The light on the adapter turned white, but no lights came on on the Kinect itself and it was not recognised by the console. If I wobbled the USB plug around in the socket on the Xbox, the lights would come on on the Kinect and it would work.

I would have got mine replaced by the retailer (Amazon), but they had no stock and still don't. I've seen posts from people saying that MS support staff have told them that the adapter is discontinued as well and they're not making anymore.

When using that, the adapter works fine and if I wobble the plug around in the socket, I can't get the Kinect to turn off/disconnect.

 

Thanks for the heads up, I have a USB 3.0 adapter coming tomorrow (I opted for a shorter one as I have way too many wires behind my Xbox now!), if that doesn’t work I’m going to phone support in the UK and see what they can do (if anything), as the product
is under warranty they’re still liable to repair/replace the product in question. As it stands, I’m going to try and avoid returning the product to Amazon for a refund, especially if as you say it’s discontinued.

 

Just following up on this in case anyone else reads it, but a USB 3.0 adapter also worked for myself!

Hey, OC. Just a heads up - at the time of writing this, Amazon are offering replacements of this product with a delivery date of November 20th. I'm gonna get mine replaced given that the return shipping is paid for - might as well
try and get a fully working one, even though I've got it working with the extension cable.
