Kinect 2.0 Review

God GG she can review it how she wants, its not like this site is a freakin professional tech site. You do realise that your teacher cert has no power here don't you? Stop patrolling the forum telling people how to post and upsetting my goat!!! ;-(

 

Despite Lei's partial review, she still gave it a 7 out of 10. With the features that don't interest her at the moment I don't think she would still give it much more than a 7.5.

And GG does have a solid point whether you agree with his approach or not.

 

He needs to work on his delivery.

(1) Scanning QR Codes = I don't need to try this feature out because I already like it

(2) Voice Chat = I bought an Xbox One to play games, not talk to other people.

(3) Use it to sign in securely on your console = I am the only user on my Xbox One

(4) Gestures = Why would I use this when I can use the Voice Commands with the Control Pad?

(5) Voice Commands = I love how smoothly I can navigate the Dashboard

(6) Video Chat = I bought an Xbox One to play games, not look / talk to other people

The reason that I took away 3 points away from the final verdict is this...

1rst Point = When initially released, it was FORCED upon people who weren't interested in it at all just because they wanted an Xbox One. I wonder how many people who bought the Xbox One at launch feel like they were ripped off due to the price hike that
the Kinect 2.0 did to the console bundle.

2nd Point = As of the time of this posting, the Microsoft Brand Kinect 2.0 is being sold for $150 while the 3rd Party Kinect 2.0 is being sold for $20. Personally, 3rd Party stuff aren't worth it and for the Xbox One, I would only recommend the official
Microsoft Brand. I only buy Official Microsoft Brand stuff when it comes to my Original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. I understand that gaming is an expensive hobby and that Microsoft has to make a profit because the Kinect is clearly important to them (Microsoft).
But when the Kinect 2.0 cost half the price of the Kinectless Xbox One Bundle, maybe it should be time to drop it down to a fairly priced $100 to accomodate those who want to pick it up outside of the bundle that has it.

3rd Point = All Kinect 2.0 designed games becomes completely useless when it (the Kinect 2.0) is out of commission. Now, if there was an option to use the Control Pad in the absence of it (the Kinect 2.0) then I would would have given the final verdict
of...

1. Talking to your console is really really really, really sad

2. Oh wow, Motion sensor in 2015? OMG!!

3. It's like using facetime, on your TV, again O M G!!!! No way

4. Voice and facial recognition? O M F G! It 1990 all over again!! And i'm a retro hipster

5. You mean I can now shop without using my hands? Technology has gone too far, im turning to god

Reality, some people love it 10/10 for them, some people see it as the console version of Jar Jar binks so 0/10 for them.

 

Can't wait for a power brick review.

I only use it to power up my console,when i turn it off,it's useless.

Final verdict : 3/10 instead of 4/10 (because i don't like orange light color when it's off).

(This is a parody,don't take it too seriously).

Power brick? I swear this thing will not work with kinect if the mains are turned off, it's a travesty for all owners.

 

Kinect does not have a power brick. You connect it with the chord from the sensor to the console. At least it doesnt have a power brick the size of the x1 console. I rate kinect 9/10. You cant use features without kinect, which belong to the kinect, thats
why we get one if you want the features. Xbox 1 is better with kinect.

No one if forcing us to buy Kinect. If you don't 'want' or 'need' a product, simply don't get it. They now have Kinect-less SKU's. I got Xbox 1 Day 1 because I was immaturely hyped about the console. In Zoo Tycoon, the game lets you choose, yes choose, to
either use the Kinect or your controller, for interacting with the animals. I usually play sandbox mode on Zoo Tycoon.

I would give it a 10/10 but my current rating of 9/10 still stands. Microsoft needs to change their calibration software. My HP Pavilion dv6 has 2 tiny in-built mics and Windows 7. But the audio option software lets me adjust the mic volume and mic boost
levels... this really helps fine tune the mic. Now I'm sure Kinect's mic is better than the mic on my PC. Yet I find myself having to do multiple calibrations with Kinect so that it can always hear me without me having to abnormally raise my voice which I
don't have to do for my PC and never have to calibrate continuously my PC just for the mic to easily hear me. If you have a quiet voice, during the calibration process, should you have your TV volume at the lowest without the dashboard saying your speakers
are too quiet, or at the highest without the dashboard saying your speakers are too loud. It looks cool the 0,10,60,100% process, but give us sliders which let us control the Kinect's mic listening volume levels and mic boost levels, as I feel the calibration
test does things rather poorly if it can't pick up my voice, again I strongly think the mic on my Kinect should be better than the mic system HP includes on the HP Pavilion dv6 laptops. I live everything else about Kinect.

Hello everyone

I understand why a lot of people love the Kinect 2.0 and I am really glad that they do love it

But, to me all of the features that I like about the Kinect 2.0 which are...

(1) The speed at which I can navigate the Xbox One dashboard

(2) Its 90% responsiveness to my voice commands

(3) Its ability to search Bing without me having to type the stuff in

(4) Its ability to instantly scan QR codes without me having to type stuff in

(5) Its ability to navigate Netflix

Doesn't warrant the price of the Kinect 2.0 for purchase with or without the Xbox One bundle. At first glance, it was an awesome experience, but it was a novelty that quickly became old; sorry.

I actually really do love the QR code scanning.

 

If only there where more of them. I haven't had one since my day one achievement. Anything I've bought is still in 25 digit codes.
