Kinect 2.0 Review

Just so you guys know, I used the Kinect 2.0 for 3 hours to make this verdict and not 10 minutes

Xbox One Day One addition Contains what?

Super awesome Kinect 2.0™

 

Any one else think Kinect-captured facial expressions are awesome?

If we ever get a X1 we would want a Kinect 2.0 (Master Chief Bundle) with it, just to try it out.

We have the Kinect 1.0 but it would not launch games because you had to hold up both hands in order for it to reconize you. Sometimes, with the help of another person it would, but then it showed as a legless (Wheel Chair) mini-me and couldnt play at all.
Or reconized two people. when others tried to help.

So we gave up and retired Kinect 1.0 to the closet.

 

I give it a 9/10.

Play certain games with it like zoo tycoon kinect sports rivals and others.

It reads QR codes.

Use it for voice chat.

Use it to sign in securely on your console.

Gestures

Voice commands. Sorry peps but so far Microsoft is only giving this privelage for kinect owners.

Video chat on your console.

One thing they need to improve is the kinect calibrationm one minute it picks up my voice the other i have to talk abnormally loud. My hp pavilion dv6 has dual super tiny mics and windows 7. There are sliders on my computer software which increases and decreases
the volume and mic boost. I strongly think microsoft needs to have sliders which adjust mic volume and mic boost rather than performing the fancy mysterious calibration test on the dashboard. That tool is not very good tbh!!

With kinect youre getting the FULL xbox 1 experience compared to those who dont have an xbox 1 kinect. Its been well worth the investment.

 

Out of curiosity, Lei, did you try ANY of the things that SSB mentioned above? If you haven't, go ahead and try it, and come back here and let me know if it changes your overall review score at all.

Granted, I know you said you probably won't use half of its features for personal reasons, but reviews must be objective and include ALL of the features.

 

I use it for a couple of things, but that's about it. I wouldn't want my XBOX without it though. With that being said I wish MS would have put the money that it costs them to produce the Kinect into better hardware for the XBOX One from the get go.

 

I unhook my console and put it away after every single use. even though i don't really use the Kinect I still hook it up every night as well.

 

I love my Kinect 2.0. And literally can not imagine Xbox One without it. In my opinion it helps immerse you into a game if it is well implemented. Alien Isolation, Ryse Son of Rome, I even like talking to Anna in Forza Horizon 2. As well as getting my
Peyton Manning on at the line of scrimmage in Madden!

Don't get me wrong. I do not care much for mo cap games. I personally own 1 for Xbox One (2 for 360). And Kinect Sports Rivals is good fun.

And my personal voice commands are near flawless. I hardly ever have to repeat myself. Even using Bose surround sound, it picks me right up.

Snapping Skype with a friend and seeing their reactions while playing a Co op game is awesome amd them seeing mine. (I just wish it was more screen in screen rather than snapped)

Watching a movie amd controller shuts off to save battery? No worries... Kinect has your back. "Xbox Pause". Controller dies in a MP/Co Op game? No worries, Kinect has your back. Tell your friends to cover you while you are grabbing your back up controller

This is only a fraction of the benefits of Kinect 2.0. I was extremely skeptical of Xbox One with Kinect 2.0. But I put faith in Microsoft and their vision of next generation. And in my estimation. I am having a truly next generation experience.

 

The second Xbox One I purchased was in a kinectless bundle. The kinect has not been missed on that console.

 

I use mine for things like "Record that, On, Off, Got to settings" Thats about it. I love it. Now my kids each have the Sunset O/D Ones with no kinet. They manage just fine and have yet to ask for one. Seems to be just what you get accustomed to.

The only thing that SSB added that is of interest to me is the ability to scan my them instead of having to type them.

As far as voice chat, signing in securely, gestures, voice commands, and video chat are concerned; I don't need them at all.

The features of the Kinect 2.0 are of little interest to me as navigating the Xbox One dashboard works well with the controller and me having to type in stuff for messaging / codes isn't a big deal for me at all

If mine broke I would replace it immediately. If I was to buy a second X1 for my main TV it would be with kinect. Now that I have the TV tuner and control TV with my voice I couldn't do with out it even more than before.

 

Fine, Lei, if that's your choice, but in doing so, I've decided to call your review completely bunk.

You see, as I said in my last post, you can't just review PART of a product, you have to review the WHOLE thing, otherwise, you're getting a completely subjective, one-sided review. It's like when reviewing a video game only through it's poorly-made multiplayer
features while completely ignoring the same game's great, cinematic single-player story - it simply doesn't work.

Because you're effectively doing the same thing with your review, with it being incomplete, you're giving people an incomplete picture of the product - and that's wrong.

While reviews are allowed to be biased, they still need to have evidence backing their standpoint. You can't make that kind of decision without the WHOLE.

Review EVERY feature of the Kinect, or none at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to chastise you (in fact, I'm trying to help you do it right). What you have so far is fine - it's just incomplete. You're already half way there, so I think maybe you
should finish it.

 

Given that the gaming room in my house is too small to use
the Kinect for motion controlled gaming, a full review would be overly negative. It would be far better to focus on those parts of the Kinect that I can use.

A review of all the features is not always the fairest one.
