Killer Instinct: Cinder gameplay reveal tonight!

I don't see KI as being a "money-grabbing model" as you put it, Azrael. It's however much you're willing to spend on it - that's not money-grabbing at all IMO! It's incredibly variable. You can spend anywhere between $0 - $80 (and it's probably cheaper by
now, although I don't entirely know for sure, but I do know they've had great sales in the past) for the game and it's entirely up to you.

When you think about "full" games (which in itself is misleading because Killer Instinct IS a full game) like MKX, it's $60 minimum and $90 or $95 for all of the content (depending on whether you get the premium edition of the game or get it separately),
and for other fighting games sometimes $100.

So, which do you think is the better deal then? If I were to hedge my bets, I'd put my money on Killer Instinct. I get EXACTLY what I want AND at a fair price.

While I won't deny that MKX is definitely popular at the moment, Killer Instinct is still going strong. 5,000 viewers? That's still pretty good (and doesn't account for the number of actual players, which is far more likely to be much higher), and it's only
low due to the excitement of MKX - it will go back up in time. Besides, we still have a lot more to look forward to: ARIA (the boss character), Shadows mode, Online Practice mode, Season 2 Story mode, revamped Dojo mode, and that's all just for the rest of
this season (which lasts between now and June)! That's a lot to look forward to! And that's not even counting the high chance of a season 3 that may potentially add Tusk and Kim Wu, which the devs have already stated are in the conceptual stages! Even when
I went to MegaCon in Orlando this past weekend, there were plenty of people who attended the Killer Instinct tournament held there. I was able to make 4th place at that tournament among hundreds! That's no small thing.

As far as MKX is concerned, the only thing it seems we have to look forward to are bug and network fixes, and 4 DLC characters (plus maybe a few costumes here and there for existing characters). Nothing else is in the works, at least that is publicly known.

I for 1 have a much better time playing KI online then I do MKX; the networking is far better and the competition far friendlier and certainly far less cheaper.

 

Depends how you look at value I paided more for 2 seasons of ki got 16 characters with Mk got 25 and I've not had to wait over a year to play them all

I don't play online at the min Mk has more to do in single play

I like both games but to me ki is not good value for money compared to normal released games

 

I like the delayed releases of KI because it gives me a reason to come back to the game. With MK, since you get everything at once, you'll play it maybe for 3 months and likely stop. With KI, I have a reason to come back and play it every month with all
of the updates and new character releases.

 

"Mortal Kombat" is one of those games you'll keep playing as long as you own the console.

"Killer Instinct" is one of those games you keep playing until you realise there isn't really a full product there.

Shame really. It's a great game that's killed by the greedy marketing ploy.

I disagree entirely, Az. Besides, what exactly makes you feel like it's not a full product? It's got various modes: story, practice, survival, and local and online vs. with the latter having ranked, unranked, and lobby matches. Sure, it may not have as many
characters or modes as MKX, but that doesn't make it any less of a product.

KI isn't being killed by it's so-called greedy marketing ploy. The ONLY reason MKX is getting more exposure is because it simply has had more exposure with quite a few prior successful releases over the past decade. KI hasn't HAD any games for nearly 2 decades
at all! The exposure for KI simply wasn't there, despite fans asking for it practically the entire time. If anything, the marketing for the game has only helped more people gain access to it. I think you'll find that the majority of the audience for MKX is
far younger than that of KI - there's a reason for it, and the general attitude of said audience, in particular, shows online, much like you seem to be doing now (the sister comment you made is gross, wrong, and entirely unnecessary).

I don't visit the forms so much and lately haven't played anything but Borderlands, I was expecting Cinder and will watch the video (would've watched the stream if I knew) but I lost interest in playing KI (even owning S2) because of two things: my connexion
and the terrible news of not having tha *** Ultimate moves that seemed confirmed for S2 after seeing that secret boss having it. Really annoying because I kinda love that kind of finishers and when I find someone to play I enjoy humilliating

 

What makes it feel incomplete is that the stages are sold seperately.

The only reason I have many of the characters is that MS gave them to me for free.

Again it's the package that's all wrong.

It could have been the biggest fighter this gen.

I love DOA to bits but even I have to admit they shot themselves in the foot just like KI with too much extras that put people off.

As for "Destiny" that's 3 million people fancy your sister.

Not quite the same thing.

 

GotyMan, they don't have ultimates (yet - still not confirmed), but they do have stage ultras which are great for humiliating your opponents that can be found on the stages belonging to the Season 2 characters T.J. Combo, Kan-Ra, Aganos, and HIsako.

 

I have to say, I am glad to see Cinder. However, I am flat out tired of waiting a month to get a character. I believe Killer Instinct is a premier fighting game. But the season needs to be shorter.

I got the game for free too (In hindsight, just parts of it.), and was a deciding factor, albeit a small one, on keeping one of the X1's I was selling on eBay.

I have downloaded about 12Gb/s of patches for Killer Instinct (The original game was under 4Gb/s.) and just recently found it needs another 19Gb/s to get back online; I feel suckered wasting my time even installing this mediocre fighter. ;-) Seriously though,
I never liked fighters all that much (On consoles.), and the few times I would play it isn't worth the time and data to keep it fresh.

I thoroughly enjoy and own most fighting games. Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive being the big 3. In my opinion the reboot Killer Instinct is right up there.
