kids butchered a gift card

hello, thanks for any help you can offer.

my kid got a £10 gift card off his friend for his birthday. him and his sister took to removing the silver strip to reveal the code so we could add this to his account and properly butchered this card, the silver strip was really difficult to remove and
they didn't ask me for help, about 8 digits of this code are actually visible.

have we ruined this or is there a way of getting help with this. I appreciate it is only a tenner, but its from his best mate and he is 10, so, you know.

Hello and thank you so much for your response. I did as you suggested and started a live chat with one of the support team, they were able to help me out but for anyone else in the same position I can advise you it took a long time to resolve.

I was queuing for an adviser for around 15 minutes, then the process took around 1 hour and 20 minutes until the £10 was credited to my account. This long length of time to resolve really made me regret not just getting another card to replace the damaged
one, but my son was genuinely wanting this specific £10 as it was from his friend.

My case was also complicated as Microsoft couldn't verify the long bar-code on the gift card so I had to upload photos of the gift card itself, then a while later when they still couldn't match it all up I had to get a photo of the receipt over to them,
this meant contacting the person who bought it. all in all I think I wasted a lot of time chasing this £10 for my son but what else can you do?

This was a lesson learnt and if this happens again I will simply email the instead of doing a live chat, send photo's of the card, front and back in the email and also a copy of the receipt. that way it is a 5 minutes job not a nearly 2 hour job.

Hope this little tale helps somebody, my son will be happy in the morning when I tell him it is resolved and I will just have to get over wasting a lot of my evening tonight.
