Kicked off of multiplayer games, but not streaming services

My ISP (which is a University ISP) swears I am connected via Ethernet, but my console says otherwise. The only way I am able to connect with my console is on the University's wifi. While I am connected,
I have download and upload speeds of 108 Mbs. I ran the internet connection test, multiplayer connection test, looked at my network statistics, and tested my NAT type until it was open. After all of this testing, my console will not stay connected while playing
a multiplayer game that requires an internet connection, but will stay connected while using streaming services just fine.

I mostly play Rainbow Six Siege and Madden 20, and I can play them from around 5-15 minutes before I lose connection. But after losing connection, I regain internet almost immediately. It seems as if
I am booted off for just long enough to lose connection in my games, but not fully lose my internet.

my game freezes for a couple of seconds and then goes to the home screen. I can open it back up and it'll take a second to reconnect.

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Hello swatson1943,

bitter to hear that your university network is so weak. Sometimes, however, a Wi-Fi repeater can help prevent interference and significantly improve a connection. Especially you can also connect your console with an RJ45 cable!!!

the University might have ethernet hubs set up in the dorms and libraries so that you can connect with an ethernet cable. the hubs might also be wi-fi as well so you will get a good enough signal, but there is also a good chance there will be a lot of interference
from other devices which could be enough to drop your connection.

also, it is worth noting that simply retesting your NAT type can falsely give an open result when it is really moderate or strict unless you restart the modem/router between tests (and I'm guessing you can't do that easily with the University's router)

I bet it's your nat type. My buddy used a university connection for a while and his nat was always strict. Streaming services are not dependent on NAT type as much as multiplayer gaming. Even if you find an ethernet connection it will not change your nat.
To many people not enough ports.

If you're connecting over a WiFi network, then you aren't connected over Ethernet (i.e. a wired connection). Are you connecting ovet wireless or wired?

Have you talked to anyone else in your dorm (if you're in one) to see if anyone else is having issues?

Same here, I was kicked off mid stream and now I can't get back on. Twitch service has been hit or miss this summer.
