    If you change your gamertag, your old gamertag will be available to be used by another player. There is no way to keep it if you change it.

    If the account has never been connected to LIVE they it would not show as taken. However it might be in use for Zune. The best way is to have the 800 msp in your account and try to change it. If its open you will have a new GT. If not no points will be removed
    from your account. You will either have to pick another gametag or keep your old one. They can not transfer a gametag name to you that is in use already.

    You can change you gametag at anytime. It takes 800 MSP and you can do it in no time. Note that a Forced Name Change sometimes are done for offensive gamertags. It is up to XBLPET to determine when a FNC is done. For now if you want a new gametag, pay the
    800 points and move on.
