Keep getting disconnected from Xbox live (cable to modem connection)

Hello,

I've been having trouble with this since I bought my Xbox one. I run a cable directly from the modem, no router. I don't have this problem with my 360, but I replaced the ethernet cord anyway and still have problems. I also plugged the connection into my
pc and updated the modem drivers, no luck.

My internet speed is above what is recommended on this site, based on the test on the Xbox one. My modem is an older model, about 10 years old. My troubleshooting leads me to believe it might be that, but it doesn't do this on my 360 or pc.

It has been really frustrating. Please help

So you have tried a direct connection to the modem but the problem still persists (disconnected after 20 minutes). Keep a direct connection to the modem. Are you able to try with a different Ethernet cable? If you connect to Xbox LIVE and stay on the dashboard
without playing any game or so do you still get disconnected? Reset the modem if you haven't already done this and also, reset your Xbox network settings to the defaults.

I keep Getting disconnected from xbox live i have great connection if I'm 3 baring there is something wrong but lately I keep getting diconnected. And I can't find a solution to the problem.

Would you please provide us with some more information on your modem:

Are the login credentials for your provider stored on the modem? Or don't you need any?

How is your ip setup?

Are you getting any errors on the network connection test on the One?

What is your NAT status?

"My modem is an older model, about 10 years old" It´s too much for modern IT - try to get a newer one.. Ar try to get the latest firmware if they write Firmwares for this product.....

 

My NAT is open, I don't get network errors when checking.

What exactly is the problem? Are only specific items not displayed? Are you being disconnected completely from xbl frequently? Or are just friends not displayed? Can you play online or are you getting interrupted and disconnected from the game server? Is
it with any game or just with certain ones?

Do you have the possibility to check your issue with a different and newer modem?

 

I get completely disconnected from live and have to restart the modem to get it to reconnect. I'd say maybe once an hour or two. It seems to be all games, not one in particular. I would have to buy a new modem to check

 

Yes, think so, too. Looks like your old modem is not able to handle the network traffic requirements for the one unfortunately.

Only other option would be having a router inserted between the one and the modem if you could manage to get one for testing.

Just for my understanding: are you always replugging the needed device if you only use a modem without a router? If so I would recommend to get a router anyway.

 

So there is that big of a difference between the network structure of the One and 360?

Yeah I have two cords I switch depending on what I'm using. Been meaning to get a router for years but I wanted the best speeds. Would you reccomend a new modem or router? Maybe both?

Honestly, I would recommend to first get a router before buying a new modem and see if this already fixes your problem. (It may also be possible to get a combined device, but this depends on your provider and your connection. Maybe there is also the possibility
to get a new device by your provider for free.)

By the use of a router there is no real loss of speed in the connection.

And on your question on the differences, a modem does not have the same detailed network protocol implementation that a router had, especially in terms of firewalling , ip addressing and NAT. So this may make the difference between the 360 and the One. A
pc does have all stuff implemented to compensate this, but the One doesn't.

 

Ok I'll give it a try, I'll start with a router. Do you have a specific make/model you recommend?

Not that I could tell you a specific model, but I'd prefer the bigger brands like Netgear, Dlink or Asus.

Just don't get the cheap stuff like Belkin or such brands
