Keep disconnecting from xbox every 20 minutes

Those aren't bad speeds, at all. Your upload is a little low, but it definitely meets the requirements for Xbox Live, and shouldn't cause any disconnection issues.

Before we jump into the stuff we can run on your PC, so that I give you accurate steps, are you on a Windows or a Mac PC?

And if you can, I highly suggest trying your console out on a different network. If we can do that before all the steps for the PC testing, then we can rule out your console as the possible culprit. This will save you the time and work putting into testing
items.

Post back with what type of computer you're using, and if you are able to try your console on a different network. We'll jump from there.

 

I am using a Windows PC and I am not able to try my console on a different network.

 

I appreciate the information, Double! It may come down to testing out your console on a different network after these tests.

For the PC tests, we will want to run a continuous ping test to a server. I apologize if everything I state seems basic. If you do not understand how to run this, I want to make sure I'm very clear. To do this, you will want to do a search for a program
called Command Prompt on your PC. You will want to hit your Start menu, and either type into the search bar if you are on Windows 7 or Vista, or simply type "cmd" (without the quotes) if you are using Windows 8. This will show an option in
the search for Command Prompt, and you will want to select that.

Once that has launched, you will want to type in there: ping -t -f -l 1400 4.2.2.2

Just let that run for 5 minutes. What this will do is send packets of information to that IP address (which isn't related to Xbox, only a testing server) in the size that is the minimum requirements for the packet size of Xbox Live packets. Once the 5 minutes
is up, you will want to hit CTRL+C and that will stop the ping.

Post back the results that happen at the bottom there, and we can get a better picture of what your network is looking like.

 

hi.. i have been hit with ddos attacks over and over today and yesterday and contacted my internet provider and they told me there was nothing they could do and to contact xbox... so i did.. and they told me to come on here and explain my problem and ereport
the gamertags of the people doing they attacks... they also told me to report them on here... i would just like to stop being booted, a ban or suspension would solve that... thanks

Thank for posting that, DoubleRiver! That confirms to me that there is something indeed going on with your internet. We want those "lost" ones to be at 0. You did seem to spike a little bit, but I don't think it was too bad. Those lost ones are likely what
is causing your disconnections.

I suggest reaching out to your internet provider to see if they can work with you to get that down. My personal suggestion is to ask for a different gateway than the model that you have, since this one has many known issues with Xbox Live.

Post back after you have reached out to them and let me know what our next steps are! Hopefully we can get you up and running shortly.

Aye Machete - I'm sorry to see any issues with a DDoS attack. However, those are done solely to your internet, not to your connection to Xbox Live. You will want to work with your ISP on that, despite them saying they cannot do anything. We are unable to
assist with connection issues that are only with your internet provider. While they cannot do anything against the user doing this, they are able to help prevent it from happening in the future. As for reporting those gamertags, the only way to do so is through
your console. If you need further assistance, please post up a new thread so that we may help you out individually.

 

I reached out to my internet provider and my xbox stopped disconnecting for two days. On Tuesday night,the disconnects came back. I forgot to ask for a different gateway. I will reach out to them again and ask for a different gateway.

 

Both awesome and not cool! Hopefully a new device will sort out the issue. Please keep us posted.

 

Sorry for long reply.It turns outs I didn't need a new device.I was going to reach out to my service provider again,but I decided to try resetting my device to factory default settings. I stopped getting disconnected for 3 weeks! I don't know why this was
the cure because I reset my device to default settings in the past and it didn't solve my problem.
