In the Xbox 360, all you had to do was press the Xbox 360 Guide Button and select the song / album to listen to and then close it; giving you the entire screen to do whatever you want to do.

In the Xbox One, you have to keep the Xbox Music App snapped on the screen at the same time the game is playing. Please understand that it isn't my intention to be mean / rudde, but the way that the Xbox One handles custom game soundtracks is too cumbersome
(unlike the Xbox 360, which handles it properly).

It's called perceived friction, the thought that you are having to do more than necessary to get where you need to be.

The UI of the One is clearly designed around the Kinect. That's not a problem if it recognises you but no amount of tweaking will get the console to recognise me more than eight times out of ten. Sure that's a high number but it should be a surprise to have
the Kinect ignore me, not something I expect to happen.

When it does I have to fall back to the controller, which while improved, isn't exactly optimal to navigate the One.

 

I thought I would comment that I've only used a controller for navigation since the release of the console and it's only been getting better. Most of the time it's as easy as hitting the middle button and pushing left to my pins if I'm playing a game and
I mean if that's not easier then the 360 then I don't know what would be....

Though I will say that I message through this website now, I generally have a tablet logged-in to the forums while playing games so it's quite easy to just message through that, but I would completely prefer being able to do it through the console, unfortunately
they don't think we need a chat and I'm not setting up a keyboard, if that's even an option.

That would be my main complaint about the UI I think, they set up all this socially interactive things like the feed and games have their own pages now etc. except if I want to interact I have to tediously type out a reply letter by letter and I don't look
at all that stuff when not on the console.

That might be the case Lei, but I already have one keyboard that lays around on the couch in that area of the house because I have a PC hooked up to my TV as well so I don't really want two separate keyboards in the same area and I don't use the Xbox One
for browsing the internet or anything so I don't feel it needs a full keyboard.

It would also require that I put down the controller in order to type a message, I just want to look at the message on screen and reply without a second thought as to what device I'll use.

It's starting to look that way, and all my demos are crammed in that long line too, so over time it may take me 10 mins to scroll though the endless line. It's a head-shaking UI.

Much like many other companies in the world, Sony's UI is just an attempt to copy Microsoft's "tiles" layout. They clearly tried to make it quick and accessible, but ended up making it a huge pain for anybody with more that 4 apps/games haha.

 

Just fiddle with it, you'll understand it eventually. I got to play on a One about a week ago for the very first time and was able to navigate through the menus like pro.

 

If you're like me and just use the Xb1 for games, the UI works just fine.

 

That's the thing though. The One is not just a games consoles. In fact games consoles haven't been just games consoles for a long time now.

It's time people stopped giving them passes for poorly performing features.

 

I rarely ever experience this "lag" people speak of. Does everyone close open programs and apps? I always hit menu and select exit on apps/games in the dashboard and have been in that habit since 2013 and rarely if ever have lag. And I use standby.

The current User Interface of the Xbox One is good (not great, but at the same time not terrible). I don't spend too much time on the Xbox Dashboard anyways, but when I do it is functional and user friendly

The kinect makes everything you do faster. With kinect you just say " xbox go to "whatever app or game you're wanting and lickity split you're there.
