Just need something confirming....

I game share with my son, so his Xbox upstairs is my 'home' Xbox and my Xbox is his home Xbox. This is a recent thing.

Now, when I buy the digital version of FIFA 17 do I buy it on his Xbox upstairs so the license is linked to my gamertag seeing as its technically my home console?

I only ask because I think I dropped a clanger a while back - I bought The Witcher 3 in the sale on my Xbox (my son's 'home' Xbox) and I tried playing it offline only to be told I need the disc or to purchase it from the store. So I guess doesn't
own the license....what a ****!!!

Yeah, as I said, I thought it was something like that. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

 

It doesn't matter which console you purchase it from, it just matters which account. If you purchase it from your account, it will automatically download to your Home console no matter where you purchase it from. You can play it as long as you are signed
into Live on any other console.

 

I'm not a 100% on this...it shouldn't matter which console you buy it on, only which profile you buy it from. Say my girlfriends console is my "Home" console and vice-versa; I can buy it on either console, but I would have to be signed into the console that
is actually at my house to play. She should be able to play it on the console at her house because that is my "Home" console. I don't buy a lot of digital titles and she don't play a lot, though it seemed to work that way with Halo:MCC and a couple others.

 

if you purchase a game on your profile you can play that game on any console you want so long as you are signed into xbox live, the only console that you can play your games offline is the home console, which is your sons as you stated.

I ended up switching my own Xbox back to my home Xbox then preordering it. Then because my 2 boys both have XB1's I decided to let them game share, made sense really apart from the fact I must have accidentally bought Minecraft on my account lol!

At least The Witcher 3 loaded up on my account.

You can only switch your home console 3 times a year so be careful.

Also, if you want to play it offline, you need to set your console to offline mode

So even if I'm having a bad internet day or XBL is down, I'd still have to change my settings to offline mode to play a digital game? Maybe my Xbox was playing silly beggars if that isn't the case.

 

i just found it makes everything work a lot smoother if set to offline mode rather than trying to launch if XBL has issues but others may say different. I just know how i do it works so thats all i care about lol

 

Some games even ask if you want to switch to "offline" mode - happened to me when core services went down a few weeks back and I was playing Shadow of Mordor
