Just complaining about a forced Gamertag change

I've heard and read about Gamertag changes being forced. Sometimes it's well deserved, and sometimes it leaves people scratching their heads. It seems like just about anything can offend someone out there. And sometimes people get "offended" when they
lose to better players. I think that's what happened to me.

I lost my 14 year old Gamertag, , just a couple of days ago. I won't bore anyone with a long story, but the name originates from a call sign and an order we used to joke about when I was in the military. When I made the Gamertag, it didn't even
cross my mind that someone might find it offensive, and it hasn't been a problem for 14 years. I'm guessing it's the initials MF, which could stand for a slang profanity phrase (not that it matters to MSFT, but that wasn't the intent). However, when I made
an appeal, the enforcers wouldn't or couldn't even take the time to tell me what was wrong with my name. All I got was a notice that their decision was final. No explanation.

To anyone saying "well of course it was MF," how do I really know? I'm practically an old man compared to most of the people I might play a game with online. I don't know all the slang. Was it the letters "coo" or "lmf" that did me in? Go check those
on Urban Dictionary, along with MF, and see what you think. Even the word "One" has a different slang meaning I was completely unaware of.

While you're at it, look at the Urban Dictionary definitions for Joey, Pup, Cub, Bunny, etc. Those are all primary parts of Gamertags generated by the Xbox system for players. Many of these names have some pretty disgusting or derogatory slang meanings;
even worse outside of the USA. Does anyone at Microsoft know about this? Did an employee set this up as an inside joke? It's ironic that people can actually be assigned names that refer to sex with minors, genitalia, prostitution, sex trafficking, etc,
when there was no previous intent to have an offensive Gamertag.

However, the truly offensive part is being made to pay $10 to get a new tag of my own choosing, especially when I'm not told what was wrong about my first Gamertag. Yes, I know that others abused this system, but you shouldn't treat everyone like they're
guilty.

Well, if anyone wants to have fun, at least go type in some random searches at Urban Dictionary. Start with animals. You won't get past Aardvark without learning something new! If I use Aardvark, will I get in trouble? What about onion? I had no idea
it was slang associated with drug use. I just like to cook with them.

Where do we draw the line on this? Not that we can, really. Dropping out is the only choice, besides just going along with whatever rules we are subject to, and obeying whoever arbitrarily passes judgement on us.

They are always on and off on this site but mostly they go on the forum "Console Banned" since they have the ability to see further into account.

What might have happened was that other gamers filed a complaint on your GT because they thought it was offensive and the enforcement team took action

 

You can file a case review on your GT change if eligible on enforcement.xbox.com. The enforcement team does not use the forums.
