  1. just bought an xbox one!

Hey, Just joining the xbox one community, purchased the xbox one without kinect bundled with Assassins creed. I haven't followed the new consoles except the wii u. I own a gaming pc and wii u didn't really have the need for another console til i seen the
holiday sales. My plans are diffidently gonna play Sunset Overdrive and halo. Is there anything i should know about the Xbox one before i receive it? If i buy a physical disc do i need to install it onto the hard drive?

Is an internet required for playing physical discs out of the box? I know pre-launch they making obsurd choices with the internet requirements and what not. I travel alot, i use consoles to play games while traveling so an internet connection isn't always
    available!

Any tips or knowledge i should know about the system so i don't have any surprises. Is the kinect worth buying later on? not really interested in it, but if it makes the xbox experience much better then i will consider it i'm sure

    Thanks!!

    :)

  2. Just bought an Xbox One...

    Alright!

Finally took the plunge and bought myself the Xbox One with BF4, COD:Ghosts and FIFA 14. Few things I'm hoping you lot can help me with though!

Firstly, is there anyway to stream music and movies from my laptop to my console? On the 360 I used to just go to System Music/Video Player, select my PC and everything loaded and it was perfect. I found a workaround (Right clicking the file on my laptop
and click 'Play to then XboxOS, but it's not ideal for music as I want to be able to play my music whilst in a game.)

Secondly, will Games For Gold be making an appearance to Xbox One? I was guttered when I got my console and couldn't redownload my old arcade games and downloaded games so it'd be nice to get something back to add to my shockingly small collection.

Finally, this one probably can't be answered, does anyone know if there's any rumors regarding 360 titles getting re-released on the One? I'd love to see Fable Anniversary, Bioshock Infinite and a few other titles on the next gen.

    Thank you,

    Curtis

I don't think he sounded like a cry baby. He was saying what he was unhappy with. Should all posts here say how much they love it all the time? It's a good thing I live in reality and know that's not gonna happen.

OP you'll get used to the UI. If you're like me you won't even look at it. I turn it on and go straight to my games every time so I don't even notice what's on there. The only things I do on my console are play games, look in the store and check achievements.
That's it. For me personally I couldn't care less what else is on there unless it hindered me from playing a game.

All the games need to be completely installed to the hard drive in order for you to be able to play them. The main difference between digital and disc is that even though in both cases the games are completely installed on the hard drive, you still have
to have the disc in the disc drive if disc is the route you choose to go. Regardless of what people will tell you the system is very heavily dependent on being connected to the internet. It can work without it but it loses a lot of its features if it is
not. As far as the Kinect goes, I am a day one owner and love how it does sound and motion tracking especially in horror survival games. In some cases even though you have the disc I have heard cases of games not working because an update was needed. Sunset
Overdrive had that problem when it released. I buy all my games digital unless I buy special collectors versions of games.

  6. welcome to the community!!!!

SO and halo are awesome. and you'll get the halo 5 big beta next week. i was in the early beta and it was awesome. access comes with the halo:MCC. Ryse was an underrated gem, DR3 is fun, FH2 and FM5 are awesome if you like racing games.

    1) buying physical, yes you still have to install it

    2) you only have to connect to the internet the 1ts time to download an update, after that you don't have to

    3) I think kinect is worth it, but opinions vary. for gaming its pretty meh, but for ease of use its amazing. using it to turn off or on your console, launch games, and even as a mic in chat is good. voice commands are awesome, but not necessary. the OS
is nice and easy to use. you can pin your most used apps/games for easy access. also "xbox record that" for game clips and "xbox broadcast" for twitch is awesome.

oh and the Kinect is definitely useful. it makes the console a completely different console if only for navigation alone.

Fullhornet, I'm sure the features of the xbox one will be better with an internet connection, but until i can see what features make having an internet connection better, it doesn't matter as long as i can play games without one, unless its needed specifically
    for an update.

Upina i agree Ryse was a under rated gem, i own it, and DR3 on pc. so i wont be purchasing games that are 3rd party, or is available for pc! unless i actually wanna play it on the xbox one. wont be many games to purchase at this time, but really I have the
money, its ment for a Christmas gift, only thing i could really think about buying was a new gaming system, so all i had to do was buy the games when they come out

  9. Alright i have a question which is very important!! When my xbox one arrives tomorrow, do i have to have an internet connection just to play games!!? i remember on day one reading u were required a day one patch that will change the ability to play games
offline and what not! is that still required? because where i will be playing the xbox one mostly, i can no longer get internet service, and where i'm on the internet atm is satellite internet, so as of right now if i'm required first time internet access
then i'm kinda *** til i get my internet situation solved

You will need to update the console the first time used. Just a note tho.. I understand the reasons for people not wanting to play online... BUT this is a console designed to be online... you need to access to the cloud (online storage) for some games
to operate correctly as some games are online only.. XB1 was not designed to be a "traveling" console but a stationary part of an entertainment hub in your home. our best bet is to stick with games that are single player types till you get your ISP settled

You can use it online for some games.. but using it it offline as well as not using the kinect really does gimp the experience of having an X1

  11. do you know how big the initial update is for the console? trust me i dont play games online, i could care less about any game that is multiplayer based because i dont play multiplayer games. but i will be connected anyways once my internet situation is
settled for all other online features

i just wanted to know if i could play any game physically without the initial update until i get my good broadband connection worked out or if the initial update is small enough where it wont take my entire 10gb of satellite service i'm currently on.

You might be able to play without updating, assuming that since you bought a newer console, that it will have a later update of the dashboard.

I do however remember someone was posting when Sunset Overdrive launched, that he only updated his console once when the console launched, and it was offline since, and when he got SO, it wouldn't play without the latest update.

Pro tip :- before installing new games go to settings > network > click go offline . Insert disc , install . Once installed go to settings > network > click go online . Install updates once prompted . So much quicker .

You can start a DL or install a game and then turn the controller off .

    Go own git!

Even if you were able to uninstall... whatever it is that's annoying you so much. The OS would still require a ton of space, and the X1 would still reserve yet more space for other functions.

Even when using a PC you can uninstall a bunch of programs, sure, but the space an operating system like Windows 10 requires, would still be hogged by the operating system. So uninstalling certain apps and features from the Xbox One [that take up just tens
of megabytes each] wouldn't exactly free up so much space for it to be noticeable.

By the way... your experience on a PS4 would be identical in terms of the OS hording disc space, and sporting first-party apps and features you can't remove. These things aren't PCs. They're closed systems that deliver specific experiences to the entire
userbase... every feature gets the same support, and updates, and content delivered to it, and every user has the same experience.

Just install a game and get playing already. Then maybe you'll have a good story to tell your computer-using, marketing, law firm affiliated colleagues about your next-gen console experience, around the water cooler. =)

Or if less is more, sell your Xbox One, and have one less thing to complain about, but more time for other things... like making up sales figures for consumer products, and somehow conflating those figures with a personal issue you have with the inability
to remove features from a closed system. {XD
