just bought an xbox one and have a question

why do i have to download the game when i have the disc? what is the purpose of even putting them on discs since i have to download the crap anyways? only 3 games and hard drive is 65% full. is every game like this?

Just bought a Xbox one

After not having a console for 12 years....at least. I can say that I'm very pleased.

So with that being said, I made a channel on yourtube to kind of document my experience. I've been PC gaming for so long I had forgotten how much fun consoles are.

The blue ray disc drives do not spin fast enough to run a game from the disc. Thus, all games need to install onto a HDD first. You are also likely downloading a patch (if the game is a xbox one game on disc) that ends up finding and replacing various files
that were copied from the disc. If it is BC (backwards compatible) xbox 360 game on disc, the entire game is downloaded and the disc is only used as drm to make sure you properly own the game. The BC component requires a full download as MS has built a custom
software enclosure around the 360 software that allows the new console to operate it. FYI the other system also requires disc games be downloaded to the HDD as well (and has large patches that need to be downloaded from time to time).

 

Ohhhhh I didn't even know it was a blue ray player. They are all Xbox one games. Thanks for clearing that up. I was like only a few more games and all my space is full. Guess I'll look into more storage space eventually. I thought 500 gb would be plenty
of space. Thx

 

I prefer to have an external HDD for my games anyway. I leave the internal 500GB drive for the OS and any apps I use. Put all my games onto a portable 3TB external HDD. Then, when I go to my friends and relatives I just grab my drive and discs so I can plug
it in there, log in, and play.

 

Plus, the internal HDD in the Xbox One isn't that great, its ok, but nothing special. If you buy a decent external with a high rpm HDD then you will actually get slightly better load times, nothing stellar, but every little helps .

3 Games and 65% full? Which games??

 

Thx for the tips everyone. The 3 games I have are. Halo 5,killer instinct definitive edition and gears of war ultimate edition....... just thinking about it I guess I have more. Forgot about halo master chief collection that came with the console. I did
enter code and downloaded it. external drive I will be getting. Thanks again.

 

I know that Halo MCC is 65GB if memory serves and H5 is closing in on 100GB... both games are very big file sizes and H5 still has updates to go I believe. A good external HDD is the way to go IMO and I do like Burnin TODI as well. Put all my games on the
