Just bought an Xbox Digital game but it’s attached to a profile

I saw an ad on facebook marketplace for a game and bought it. Trouble is that it wasnt a physical disk and the instructions were as below. Is this allowed?

1. Go to gamertags section on the home screen

2. Click add new

3. Enter the email and then then password included

4. Go to my games and apps and scroll down the left to full library then owned games

5. Click on the purchased game and click installk

6. When game is fully installed sign into the profile provided every time before signing into your own profile and playing the game. Moo

STEP 6 must be repeated every time you want to play

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE CAN YOU CHANGE OR EDIT DETAILS OR PASSWORD. THIS WILL BLOCK THE PROFILE FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE

No. That's definitely not allowed. They are just giving you access to an Xbox profile to play the game and is against the T&C's.

You haven't actually purchased the game at all and access can be withdrawn at any time.

I would report it but I don't think you would get your money back. How did you pay for it?

Sounds kinda sketchy.

Typically when you buy a digital copy from a 3rd party vendor, they give you a code you redeem in the Xbox Store or online. Sounds like someone sold you a game bought on an Xbox account, & then gave you the account.

Now you could play the game on your account if you gameshare with the account that was given to you. But I would try to return it & get a refund. I would also suggest contacting Xbox support. Here's the link: https://support.xbox.com/contact-us

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I paid for it by BACS. He said he was a registered trader so I guess its Trading Standards and Facebook Marketplace action time.

Buying/selling of accounts is not allowed per the code of conduct/terms of use. So using the account to access the game can put you at risk for banishment.

The game has the Play Anywhere tag on it so if you bought it digitally then you should be able to use it on PC and Xbox. The license will be attached to your gamertag.
