    Just an idea for Xbox

For games already out now, older than six months or something, and with no add-ons in the works, or season pass out there with consumers waiting for content? So no devs still on the ground for that title. Nah, probably not.

But they did it for most of the games that launched with 720P upscales. Almost all are 900 to 1080 now. When MS freed up power by jettisoning Kinect's requirements didn't a bunch of devs take advantage and patch up their games?

Even if most devs wouldn't, people would have bought and paid for X1's, regardless of model/revision, they'd still be getting the base X1 experience, methinks. The experience I'm happy with. {=)

  2. IF current gen were to upgrade their hardware. (At least one person from Sony, from what I read. Seems to be hinting of it for 4k+ resolution as well as for giving their system the capability to run future games and game engines at higher and smoother FPS.

I could be wrong. But i don't think current PS4 owners would be PO'd if they did. But from reading this thread. If MS did it, more than a few would somehow feel. For lack of a better word at the moment.. Disenfranchised?

  3. If they did it and the current models retained their performance capabilities, what's the issue, Blue?

The issue is merely a matter of preference. It stems from a feeling of stability, especially over time (even if it's a relatively short time, unlike the last gen). Some people
simply like the idea of getting a console and having the knowledge that the hardware and performance will remain the same for awhile. It allows them to focus on the more enjoyable aspects of gaming, as opposed to 'keeping up with the Jones'.

You'd be getting the same games, with the same performance on the current models, and newer games too. Just there'd just be newer models floating around that'd be capable of slightly better.

Which there is nothing wrong with... right up until it comes to playing with others on XBL. Then, the "slightly better" aspect can be perceived as having an advantage.

The length of last-gen's life-cycle won't be repeated,

Not saying that's impossible, but I will say... says random guy on internet.

and R&D'ing, producing, marketing, and establishing a brand of a new console would be way more work and costly than just releasing revised Xbox One models with its installed-base, game library, and strong brand already
    in place.

Probably... but perception is a funny thing. Some people like the idea of waiting for a period of time for something "all new". Like a console. The idea of just abandoning any
future console generations in order to just keep throwing upgrades at the last one, can easily be perceived as cheap to some people. I'm one of them.

I don't get why people would be ticked off. It's not like a revised model would render the X1's we have now defunct.Just like the Elite controller doesn't render standard
    controllers obsolete.

Between this post and my last, I've explained as well as I can. I'm fully aware it won't render anything defunct or obsolete. However, many people may perceive it that way regardless.

People are already talking about the X1 Elite bundle's improved HDD. That's no different. Doesn't bother me a jot. {=D

Unless there's some misunderstanding going on, there is a monumental difference between the simple addition of a larger HDD and a hardware upgrade that changes the console's gaming
performance. They can add a petabyte HDD for all I care.

I ain't worried whatever the plan is for newer models. S'all so far off it don't matter.

Some people seem to think it'll only be a couple of years until the next gen 'thing' (whatever it may be) happens. I wouldn't call that 'so far off'... but... I actually hope it
    is that far off.

Better res/power in games could be delivered to newer models in patches from devs that older models wouldn't get. Meh.

Yeah... because the devs are doing such a great job at making awesome quality games nowadays and getting them finished under their publishers' deadlines. I'm sure multiple GB day
one patches will soon be a thing of the past and they'll have plenty of time to do that.

Hmmm... by the time you get to download a game's day 1 patch, then the additional data for the 'newer models', plus that day 1 patch, plus the all the different patches for all
models in between (as well as including) the lowest and highest tier models... do you think they'll have time to make more games?

    Just an idea for Xbox

I do agree that the 8th gen won't last nearly as long as the 7th gen did since the economic crash happened during the 7th gen and no one could afford to go buy a $500 gaming system. And yeah I do believe they would do an upgraded version they know the amount
of money they could make from doing something like that. People who own them already would complain but I bet a few of them would be happy to upgrade. Who know's maybe Microsoft would offer a send in your current model and just pay for the upgraded part's
    kind of a deal.

I'm talking about hardware revisions akin to the 360's. Only in this case it would be the kind of revisions that would allow for higher native resolutions. It's a negligible upgrade
    and difference.

I think you'd have to be somewhat insecure to
    let something
like that bother you so much. If you upgraded from a white 360 to a Slim,
it was for the design, the quietness, whatever. If that upgrade had included higher resolution
or graphical performance, what kind of mad-man is annoyed about that?

"I don't want to upgrade, and I don't want that person who is upgrading, or buying new after I bought the console
    - to have a slightly better stuff than me! I demand all
iterations of this technology to keep the bar as
    low as it was at
    launch! When
    I bought it!"

Newer 360's didn't come with any such visual upgrades but people
    still bought them. A console
revision arriving with hardware/software improvements... that can do everything the older one does, slightly
better; is in the same family, plays the same games, connects the same gamers...
not sure I see why versions doing the same thing, but inside a different case, is more acceptable than one doing the same things, while
doing other things slightly better. Mild
    jealousy from older model
owers? S'not a good reason. lol

[quote user="A Blue Illusion"]Which there is nothing wrong with... right up until it

    Again it'd be native resolution
and perhaps some lighting effects or minor visual
upgrades. The game's FPS should be consistent whatever it's at, or the devs suck a giant di- --licious
    lolly
of frozen turd. I'm talking the same as flipping
graphics settings on a PC from Maximum to Ultra, or something. It wouldn't
    impact multiplayer
    and it certainly wouldn't
    impact latency issues and the
    like. People
with fibre have an advantage over people with dsl.
    Oh woe.

S'a none issue in terms of gameplay,
this gripe. Guys on decent PC's delivering console-level
visuals can game with guys on full-on
    high-end gaming rigs with all
    cylinders firing on Ultra.
What do the guys on decent PCs care what the visuals are
like on the other guys' PCs? They're competing in and enjoying the same game
    with beautiful visuals still.

    If a revised X1 could
    deliver higher native resolutions
than mine, I wouldn't rush out to buy it right now, or care that it existed.
If I did I'd own a rival platform
right now. If it was slimmer, matched my socks, and reminded me to blink
in intense gaming moments I'd upgrade in a second. Higher native resolutions, and potentially
higher framerates [in SP games] would be a plus. {XD

    If people's
perception was 20/20 they'd see the X1 as a different beast entirely from its 2013 release.
    Having models capable of slightly
better resolutions, from my perspective, is the same as having a rival
    platform out there capable
of better. I'm not on that platform though. I wouldn't
feel an urgent need to dump what I have and switch-up.

    'slightly' improve

That makes it different from your experience. Why would you care? You don't. Does it bother me that people
will have a faster HDD than me? No. Would
it bother me if people were experiencing higher native resolutions on a
revised X1, while mine is upscaling? Nope.

If knowledge that there is a better version of the model

smart phone models would be selling

Wow, where on Earth did all
    those models come from? I
like when somebody takes a topic and runs with it to its extreme! "What are devs gonna do when the X1 is upgraded to such an extent that its hardware is beyond their
comprehension!? What then!? Do we have no games at all? Is
    that we do~~!!
    " lol

    BioWare stuffed a resolution
increase for the X1 version of DA:I into a patch that contained fixes for the game. Meanwhile they'd already
delivered the PC fixes, and the same fixes arrived for the PS4 in a different patch. Those versions didn't get/need the resolution
update. They improved the game as they fixed it.

It's not such a big deal
as you seem to think. It's uh, just a patch. They could, while devving the
game, give the options a tweak and add a, "X1-E" setting. Done. X1-E owners would hit that. X1 OG owners wouldn't.
Maybe you could download that option in a optional
patch, so as not to offend X1 OG owners with options they can't use. }=]

The logic that involves holding back future models so that people like me with the first run VHS-style, resolutionary-challenged models can feel good about us all dwelling in the respective 'suck' [pinch of salt peeps] together -- regardless of the date
on the calendar we made our purchase. Heh. It alludes me. {XD

Would it pee people off? Yes. Would they be right to be pee'd off? Nope, IMO. Newer, slimmer models are gonna be a thing probably. Were a thing last-gen. Their existence
does not affect your experience on your Xbox One. Slimmer models capable of slightly better? Same. Our experience is what we've been lapping up, defending to rival fanboys, and enjoying this whole time.

Would a newer, better model be an admission that the Xbox One, that Xbox fans like me bought, could have been better? {=O Is that it? A newer better model would weaken arguments, and make peeps feel bad about the experience they've been enjoying this whole
time on the system they have now? That's just messed up.

I have been and will continue having a blast on this thing! Even if the next one is straight out of Fringe and opens portals to another universe. Or if it's just
a basic Slim that's identical in every way hardware/software/power-wise,
or if it's capable of slightly
better native resolutions. Nothing on my end will
change for the rest of my console's
    life, for as
    long as I have it.

Yeah, I don't get it. lol But that's just me dude. {XD It would be an issue, you're right. For all the wrong reasons, heh ha, just like the first time. The Xbox One I have is a solid
piece of kit. Better versions wouldn't have an impact on it or my perception of it. But dat's just me doe.

Apparently there was some misunderstanding, on both parts there Argo...

I like when somebody takes a topic and runs with it to its extreme!

As much as I like it when I put up a response that voices my feelings on a subject (even if there may be misunderstanding, which I even comment to, in said post) and I do so with
at least some respect and common courtesy towards the poster... only to have that responded to in a condescending 'seriously!?' kind of tone? With implications like "what kind of mad man..." and words like "jealousy" and... well, I can't really remember what
    else... !? Really? LOL

Well... it probably could've been an enjoyable conversation, but whatever. I'm out. Gotta go find some hydrocortisone.

But, you clarified your position by stating "you couldn't make it any clearer." You feel like if there's a 3DS, you'd have a sense that you have to keep up with the Jones's if there's a 3DS XL out there.

What's wrong with jealousy as a word? It's not a bad thing. It's a feeling of loss, insecurity, or status in something of personal value. The loss of stability you described is that. You feel a newer, different model of your console would devalue the one
you have, and the way you feel about it.

Sorry you felt I was being personal. Some of your lines can be read condescendingly/sarcastically. "Yeah... because the devs are doing such a great job..." Yeah, eedyit, because X. But it's all good. lol

Glad you replied though. I wanted to say I obviously meant to type "ELUDES me" not "ALLUDES me" in my last post. But didn't want to double-post and I ran out of edit time. Alludes... lol. Yeah, because that makes sense. {XD

  10. Ah very well, a 'last' effort to clarify and move on.

But, you clarified your position by stating "you couldn't make it any clearer."

Just because I couldn't make it any clearer doesn't mean it's clear to you and I understand that. I'm sure you've been in the same position.

You feel like if there's a 3DS, you'd have a sense that you have to keep up with the Jones's if there's a 3DS XL out there.

Not personally... but if you put it in the context of there being a 3DS and a 3DS XL, both being online playing MP simultaneously, there will be people who think that one may give
an advantage over the other (just sayin... I know nothing about those devices lol). It was the whole online aspect of different variations I was referring to, in and of itself. IMO, I wouldn't support any upgrade that could remotely give someone an 'advantage'
    in online MP.

What's wrong with jealousy as a word? It's not a bad thing. It's a feeling of loss, insecurity, or status in something of personal value.

I can't recall that word ever being used in a positive context. It's perceived as derogatory IMO.

The loss of stability you described is that. You feel a newer, different model of your console would devalue the one you have, and the way you feel about it.

Not necessarily, I never felt that the X1 "devalued" my 360 on an entertainment level. Maybe on a literal monetary level, but that's beside the point.

Sorry you felt I was being personal. Some of your lines can be read condescendingly/sarcastically. "Yeah... because the devs are doing such a great job..." Yeah, eedyit, because X. But it's all good. lol

I suppose that's fair enough... I was actually being truthful as far as MPO on devs and the sarcasm was directed towards them, mostly, although I imagine publishers may be more
    to blame.

Glad you replied though. I wanted to say I obviously meant to type "ELUDES me" not "ALLUDES me" in my last post. But didn't want to double-post and I ran out of edit time. Alludes... lol. Yeah, because that makes sense.
    {XD

You did clarify something that I mistook, now that I've re read. You seem to support the idea of there being 'nothing wrong with a slight graphical difference'... IF... something
like this were to come to fruition. But, if I read right, you also seem to support the idea that they really shouldn't employ something that could affect how the game plays in vs MP online, specifically in the aspect of giving an advantage over others. I believe
you used fps [staying the same across platforms] as an example... that I might be able to live with.

Like you said... there are already things that make the playing field unbalanced, like DSL vs Fibre... I just feel they should refrain from adding to that list.

I'm still not keen on the whole upgrade aspect in general. Do you really think if that door opened, all the things that poured through would be within the parameters of what we're
talking about and we wouldn't end up with a bunch of 'upgrade x will help you gain an advantage in game y' products?
IDK... I may not argue much if you said I seem to lack faith in humanity. I definitely wouldn't argue if you said I lack faith in business practices. lol

To sum up any variation of this current One console that would give an advantage in MP is unacceptable. A variation of this console that is improved power efficiency and hardware wise that doesn't give a resolution and framerate boost is acceptable and

I was curious and I'm sure it might have been brought up before to them, but since the Kinect is no longer a forced item with the Xbox one, why don't they release a newer version of Xbox one with a more powerful processor in it and more powerful hardware.
I know several people that used to be totally pro Xbox and since the 8th generation came out they jumped over to PlayStation because they say the hardware is so much better on the PS4 than the Xbox one and the games run better and are more graphical.

How did this thread get to 3 pages long.

    There's nothing to discuss.

With the Azure Servers Microsoft is able to increase the XBox ONE's processing power exponentially.

The first game to take full advantage of this is "Crackdown 3".

The ONE is currently the most powerful console on the market, though its full potential has barely been partially tapped.

We're all agreed differing framerates across platforms for competitive multiplayer, or even co-op - isn't acceptable. There is no splitting the userbase here. It's not what I'm suggesting or what would be accomplished with increased native resolutions on
a newer, upgraded Xbox One model. =)

Think of Fable Legends cross-play across Xbox One and PC... the PC guys will be playing with the Xbox One guys, but their version of the game will look slightly better. The frame data, frames per second, will be set in the game, and will be the same across
platforms. It has to be or it wouldn't work.

A good PC can run the game at 60FPS easy, but the game wasn't made to run at 60FPS, so PC and X1 versions will run at 30FPS, and the PC versions will have more effects, look smoother in terms of jaggies, and be shinier, and such. But it won't impact the
gameplay of gamers on the other platform.

The experience on a newer X1 capable of higher native resolutions would be purely cosmetic for the end-user. It wouldn't impact the people on older models. In the same way one guy having a giant HDTV and a Xbox 360 upscaling from 720P to 1080P, doesn't impact
a guy playing the same game on a rear-projection piece of poo CRT or something with the 360 giving out the lowest thing it has, or whatever.

I'm not saying I want newer Xbox One models to upgrade in this way. I just think it would be a wasted opportunity not to boost their capabilities if they were to come along. So with new heat sinks, better fans, improved power efficiency, faster HDDs, like
the hybrid in the Elite bundle model - just like the 360 got across revisions - they could also run modern games that offer higher native resolutions, natively, instead of upscaling, like the older model.

Owners of older models, like me, would be unaffected, having the same experience they've always had, and always expected to get going forward. I just wouldn't be too bothered knowing I'm gaming with guys online, who could be playing at native resolutions
while I'm not, if they bought the newer models. Just like as I said, I'm not fussed that the Elite is being bundled with a sweet SSD hybrid, and fancy new controllifier. All my stuff's still kicking. {XD
