just a few concerns before purchasing an x1

Ok, so i'm still in the boat on this one.

What i'm still concerned about, and haven't really found an answer for (did look as much as i can before posting, but no definite answer available), are some of the settings and features for this system.

I've recently purchased an x1 for my son, set it up for him and put parental controls on him, with this account being the parent. i didn't want to use my original GT (which isn't an MS email), since it would be "his" system, and used my MS account for parent.

what i would like to know is, if i purchase an x1 for myself, and sign in with my MS account, what will happen to the account on his? i've recently read a few posts on child accounts getting locked due to the parent leaving the family.

also, i purchased live for his account, and several digital games as well. if i get my own console, do those benefits carry on to mine? or do i have to purchase them separately again?

anyways, i hope i explained my concern properly, and that someone will be able to provide me with a definite answer

I was gonna wait till January before purchasing the X1, but f*ck it, day one!

 

Biggest issue with Xbox One is the Xbox 360

So during this transition most developers are doing both a X1 and a 360 version so given the concerns over X1, where is the reason to switch? There are few X1

only games so even if I miss those its not a major issue as we would miss them by switching to PS4 also. I know developers want to sell as many as possible

but could this hurt MS and even Sony (most are PS3 and PS4) as there are few reasons to upgrade? Both companies have said they are not dropping support for

the older units anytime soon so it may be years before a next gen library is large enough to switch too?

 

If you leave the family as the parent, I believe this will have an effect on your son's account, whether it locks it, I have no idea. If you're simply downloading your profile on another console to use, this will not change the family set up.

Xbox Live Gold is only sharable on 1 console which to be consider the 'home' console. All accounts on the home console can use the 1 gold membership as well as play the games. If you were to use a different Xbox, you would need another gold subscription.

I'm not sure if you can share games on two consoles, you could on the 360, so I don't see why not with the Xbox One, but you might find you either need to be connected to the internet or have the account that originally purchased the content signed-in. Someone
might be able to comment on this more.

 

thank you for the response DigitalAssassin, and clarifying some things for me. I was worried that I download onto another console, that would automatically remove me from "his" console (and family set up), which would possibly cause problems for him.

I'm still not sure about the game sharing feature, maybe i just won't bother with it?? I was just hoping I wouldn't have to re-purchase anything, since I got my other son a PS4, and a handful of games (His Bday was far earlier than the son who got the X1,
so he had a longer time to build his library, lol), I could have just played those.

I guess the only other thing stopping me from purchasing one is the power consumption. I saw a photo comparison of the last 2 console generations power usage, and X1 was the most power hungry (I think it was by Kotaku or IGN, don't remember which one exactly).
