June Update- External Hard drive questions.

Just a few questions I know the update isn't out yet but it would help me a lot of I got an answer to these questions, much appreciated.

1) Can I leave the external hard drive plugged in the console even when the console is turned off, or will that effect the data stored in the hard drive? Like how some people right click then press eject on their USB's on PC, so that the data stored inside
the USB is not corrupted, lost or harmed in any way?

2) In future if there is a update and I have my external hard drive in the console and there is a system update but the console is in standby mode and is not being used (so that I can say "Xbox On" and it will turn on), will the system update take space
on the external hard drive or internal hard drive? Or would it just not update and ask me for confirmation when I switch on the console?

3) If I signed in to a friends console and I levelled up or gained some source of progress, will that transfer directly back to my external hard drive, or would I have to sync my external hard drive to the cloud system some how? I think that links to
question 1 whether the external hard drive can be kept in the console or not if its not being used and if that effects the data stored?

Thank you if you attempt to answer my questions, as you can clearly see I've never used an external hard drive for consoles. I just want some clarification as to how it can be kept, meaning can it be plugged it constantly in the console or ejected once
you switch off the console, because I'm considering to invest in an external hard drive so that I'm not held back in the future, memory wise. Thank you.

Here is what we know as far: External Hard Drive is coming very soon via the June update. The update will enable support of USB 3.0 drives of at least 256GB or larger. Two drives can be connected and management at one time. You will be able to transfer full
games including all DLC and app to the storage device.

In answer to your questions:

1. Yes you'll be able to leave the external drive connect while the console is powered off or in standby mode. Previously on the Xbox 360 with external support you didn't need to eject to safely remove the device like you would on Windows, however something
in the console coding will no doubt have a safe guard for data corruption.

2. The system update I would assume will only be installed on the internal drive of the Xbox One to avoid any issues on an external drive.

3. All game saves are synced the cloud automatically when online so the next time you played the game on your own console sync with the cloud save. However I believe an copy of the save would be kept locally if playing offline and would be synced next your
online.

How do you make sure that your xbox one it off if you still have the external hard drives plugged in?

 

The console light would be off, I can tell you that the new update as an option to power off your external hdd if you are on instant on mode when you switch off your xbox

I say Xbox needs to make the Xbox One power off USB when you turn the One off
