July game with gold is asking to add a credit card before get it free

July Game with Gold is requiring adding a credit card, though free. It is stated $0+ tax, and it need me to add a credit card before I can do the purchase" though its free for gold member...

I think this is not right for gold members, some one may not like to attach credit card but pre-paid deposit into Microsoft account.

Please do not be misunderstood when the system asked for your credit card while the game is free that is under the Games with Gold feature. The only reason why the system is asking you this payment instrument is for verification procedure. If you have an
Xbox 360 console and the system is asking you to add a card, try instead to update your billing information. For most cases though, if you are going to download a free game for Xbox 360 using the console, it should not ask you to put a credit card first. You
will only be able to download free games using the Xbox website if the game is for Xbox One.

I don't have an CC so i can't download the game. I'm a member of xboxlive for 5 years now, so i think this kind of loyalty should be rewarded with at least the ability to download this game without a CC.

 

I have a CREDIT CARD and I have just bought an game 2 weeks ago.

But I cannot buy the free xbox one game on the xbox website.

There's a service alert up about the issue -
support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-status

Wait for that to clear up and then try again.

 

I just wanted to post on this thread to clarify a few points:

1: The reason why it requires the credit card info is because it is still considered a "purchase" for the license to that content. Example, I sold my xbox 360 but I can still go to xbox.com to purchase a free game with gold and own the license to that game
( I did this with Dark Souls) so I can always install the content if I ever do get the Xbox 360 again.

2: The credit card information isn't required more as the billing information is required. This is still considered a transaction and the console needs the billing information to complete it. You can go to Settings>Payment & Billing>Change Billing Address
and just make sure the information is update.

 

to StarKi, your explanation 1 for needing a cc in such transaction was informational but not fully supporting the games with gold program.

Gold members had the rights to have only use one method of paying like deposit of pre-paid card, not paypal , nor cc.

and by the way the issue was solved over the past hours. the game was "free" to gold member, not "$0+tax"...and you know in past it was already such Free way for gold member, on 360 or One. so my guess is yesterday someone in background messed up with the
billing, and someone fixed it.

 

I agree fully. Just wanted to give that information for anyone else who might have a similar issue, its what I learned over the phone with multiple agents.

This one is different. I'm trying to buy gold on my profile, but it keeps sending me back to the live options

My credit card has money. It's currently silver. I also couldn't buy the "35.99" offer due to this absurd problem. Now all I can buy is the "9.99" 1 month goal option because I don't see the "35.99" deal. However, when I select the "9.99" option, it still
sends me back to the gold options again. I'm really frustrated, but I'm being patient too. I have this problem for more than 2 days, I also can't send messages to people that are not my friend. It keeps saying "message could not be sent/send". I'm wondering
if people have the same issue with the xbox live gold. But this issue is really annoying, when I press the "confirm purchase" option, it sends me back. I'm ***, I can't even download any other profiles. Wow
