    Judder Netflix and HBO Go choppy framerate


    Hi,

    since around june Netflix and HBO Go is not what it used to be before.

    The video is juddering and looks choppy, especially when the camera does pans or tilts, it is really annoying.

    I read that Microsoft changed something in their june update, so since then it is possible to stream video on a low bitrate.

    But this seems to create the problem, frames get dropped and reslut in this juddering choppy videoquality.

    This issues are noticeable in Netflix and HBO Go, Amazon Video and Starzplay work fine.

    I have a fast internetconnection 30Mbit down, my NAT is open.

    I reinstalled the apps which did not solve the problem.

    Netflix and HBO Go work fine on Apple TV, Ipad, Samsung Smart TV and Samsung Blue Ray, so i really think it is either the Netflix app, or the xbox one.

    I read in the forums, that other people have the same problems.

    Please help

    Hello T SAW DC,

    I decided to look today if anyone was still having the issue and I see people are still having it. I've made 2 threads in the past, one that's in the Xbox Preview Program forums since I was directed there. In there, 1 of my thread was deleted, the other
    one was open and technically "locked" with no solution besides "Xbox is looking into it, thanks for your patience".

    At that point, I decided to take the plunge and call Xbox support. They tried with me to set the xbox back to factory settings as well as getting a previous firmware update but due to that I am stuck in the "preview wave" that option is not available.

    They gave me the option to replace the Xbox but I wasn't ready for it, but seeing how we are going into August in the next day or so.. my patience has been exhausted. I will be replacing the Xbox and hoping the issue is solved then.

    **update** after speaking to Xbox support further there is one possible scenario that may be affecting this.

    Do you have comcast OP?

    Yes i have comcast cable, but Netflix works fine on all other devices. I did port forwarding for Xbox, so my NAT is open, it is the Xbox causing the issue. As I said: it worked fine until around June when Xbox got a new update...

    Do you have this modem:

    Because apparently this modem gives issues and I am starting to believe there maybe a latency issue due to this device at a micro level of milliseconds (hence no buffering).

    I have the problem with Netflix & HBOGO (not youtube) and since both I am sure use the HEVC it maybe possible this codec uses a very percise streaming method which evokes this "choppy frame rate".

    Eitherway, I am gonna switch modems to a non gateway modem and get a seperate router to see if it solves the issue.

    Lag and intermittent disconnections may occur, with no permanent fix known at this time. This may be related to the firmware/antenna/chipset.

    High Firewall settings on this device can cause a number of errors on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. We have seen "High packet loss" errors on the Xbox One and several potential errors on the 360 including "MTU", "Internet error", "Live connection".
    Should any of these errors occur we suggest disabling or setting the firewall to low.

    So I am gonna give that a shot because while this also happened in June, I also had comcast visits around that time and modem replacements.

    That is the router I have, but since around 1 year...and you know what? I called comcast to disable the router functionality by calling 1 (855) 308-9453, these are the guys who know what you're talking about. Since these modems provide a hotspot named xfinity
    which you can not turn off via the web interface you have to call them to switch it off from their side. So what I have now is just a dumb modem because they turned all router functions off, connected to my AirPort Extreme. Same setup since around 1 year.
    It is the Xbox and I am pretty sure all Xboxs have the issue, just a few people are sensitive to the choppiness. Did you have a chance to take a look at someone's else's Xbox?

    Yes I have. But they don't have comcast. Gonna check at my other buddy that just got comcast.

    And no.. I also have that disabled the "wi-fi hotspot".

    I want to get an entirely different modem that isn't a Modem/Router combo. I never liked it from day one that I got it.

    So your friends who do not have comcast, they do not have this issue on their xbox?

    I do have the issue on HBO and Netflix, but not on Amazon Prime Movies

    Well, there are lots of threads regarding this issue, most of them locked without an answer. I just opened a this one couple weeks ago, but that didn't help. Why did I have to start a new thread? There's so much information in all the older threads. It's

    Having same issue myself now with Xbox video itself. Audio keeps going but video pauses... Time Warner Cable and open nat though..

    Hey T SAW DC, the Technicolor-TC8305C has documented issues such as the buffering issues you're experiencing. We recommend bridging the Gateway and using a different router with it. You may need to contact Comcast for assistance bridging your modem.

    Hi Mister Maka, please read the whole thread before suggesting solutions: I have the Comcast router since more than a year, and all router functionality is turned off, my router is an Apple Timecapsule. The Comcast router just works as a modem. The Netflix
    issues just started with the June update, the setup worked before the June update.

    Hey T SAW DC, sorry for the confusion. Thanks for clarifying!

    So we can narrow this down, we suggest reaching out to a nearby friend or family member and testing out your Xbox One on their network. If you find that you're not having a juddering issues on their network, that would narrow this down to a network issue.
    In which case we recommend reaching out to Comcast for other alternatives in networking hardware.
