I would like to have a lil more clarification on this matter.

Are you receiving a notification or message prompting you to connect to Xbox Live? Are you unable to connect to the internet with your console?

Do you currently have any Enforcement Actions on your account? You can verify this by checking out
this site.

If you can verify this info for us, we should be able to provide further troubleshooting techniques, if any, to assist you in this matter.

Modding of any kind on a console is a violation of the terms of service so yes you can get banned.

Firstly, I would like to remind you of the
Xbox Forums Guidelines, specifically this one:

"23) Please do not discuss or post links to any topic that could violate the 'Terms Of Use'. Including any threads or posts regarding modifying the way your Xbox operates such 'modding' and/or 'chipping'
your Xbox or otherwise altering the way it is intended to operate. This includes ANY discussion of self-repair. Please only suggest official support procedures as noted on official support pages on Xbox.com."

That said, I'm unable to confirm or deny that there is a possibility that your console may be detected as having a difference in hardware, and your Xbox itself would be banned. This would mean that you would no longer be able to connect to Xbox Live [the
internet] on that console.
