I respectfully disagree. 9, 10, and 12 were all fantastic and wonderful games.

I can at least appreciate XIII for what it is rather than what it isn't. I'm actually really enjoying the sequel way more than the first game.
10 was amazing. In my top 5 games of all time. 12 was pretty good, but they dropped the ball in a few areas.
I really hated the art style in 9. I mean really hated it. But even then, it was still leaps and bounds above that farce that was FFXIII.

.

I used to be a die hard Final Fantasy fanboy. Before it released, people would come around here and attack the game. I would destroy them. It was personal. Then when the game came out, I felt like a guy who came home from work early and found his wife and
his dad getting it on. I had been betrayed by people that I trusted implicitly. First, there's confusion. "This can't be real. There must be some mistake." Then denial. "This game is awesome, I love it." And then comes rage. It was at that point I smashed
a plate against the wall, flipped over my desk and kicked the dog. My intense hatred of the game has kept me from playing its successors. They may be good for all I know.

.

Anyways, when I was saying that I agree, I just meant I don't think we'll be seeing any JRPG's of that caliber come to the X1. With the exception of maybe Kingdom Hearts.

2. ^Ah, okay.

Yeah, I dont blame anyone regarding XIII. But the sequel does things that I wish were in XIII. The plot still sucks though. Majorly.

3. its not really MS's market. JRPGs don't sell well in the US and EU which are microsofts main territories. IDK if you were around for the original xbox but there were tons of them, then they all died off. I'm not a fan personally but i would kill to see a
jade empire sequel
That's not a JRPG. I'd trade one of my kidney's for a sequel, though.

FPS rules,so a lot of game genres are left behind.....

Also the RPG devs/publishers who makes money are Bioware/EA,Bethesda,Gearbox/Take-two,....

And the last 2 big japanese succes we saw are Dark Soul and Dragon'Dogma, which are not JRPG.....

Maybe some devs/publishers will have the guts to bring JRPG on Xbox one (and maybe some RTS too).

6. I don't think the XB1 will be huge in Japan so we'll only be getting the regulars. The main reason for me to have all 3 current consoles.

7. Personally, I'm more of a fan of American RPGs anyways (Knights of the Old Republic, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Fall Out, etc.)

Actually Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon did okay here. If they bring JRPG to Xbox One I'll buy it.

Seeing as this thread is back from the grave...I still want to see another Blue Dragon. Heck, I'd settle for a remake at this point.

Peace, J.R.

I would love a Lost Odyssey 2. In my opinion Lost Odyssey was the best JRPG I played last gen. A truly underrated game. I would love to see more turn based style. But those seem to be going way of the Buffalo. Seeing as FFXV is going to be a hack and
slash.

Kids these days and their need of instant gratification. Thanks Call of Duty.... pffft

11. "Unfortunately, if nobody buys them then the devs will stop making them."

Were 360 sales of these games that poor. PS3 kept getting them and Ps4 is getting some. And the games I looked at seem to indicate the 360 did pretty well:

Blue Dragon: 0.9 M

Lost Odyssey: 0.9 M

Tales of Vesperia: 0.7 M (0.5 M on PS3)

Tales of Xillia 2: 0.8 M (PS3 only)

Tales of Grace f: 0.9 M (PS3 only)

I have seen data on some others as well. But if the data is close to correct then these types of games can do well on Xbox. Star Ocean the Last Hope seemed to do a little better on 360 than the PS3 although the PS3 version was the international and came
a little later. Overall it seems that these games can perform just as well on Xbox brand.

@NxtDoc

I don't think all hope is lost. The PC is seeing more and more of the tactical turn based games and normally the console will follow suit if genres are well received.

We may not see the JRPG style anime games because they seem to have either a love'em or hate'em relationship with the Xbox users but more of the XCOM type tactical games or more western rpg's like Fallout 1 and 2, etc. A game like Age of Wonders 3 or Wasteland
2 could easily be ported to the console (controller wise) and the subject matter would appeal to the majority of One owners more so than JRPG's.

I own PS's specifically for JRPG's but there seems to be a trend of them all wanting to be the hack/slash Monster Hunter clones. I enjoy that genre too but I'd hate to see the old school turn based JRPG's disappear.

JRPGs on Xbox One

I hope not Randver. I would hate to see the old school turn based JRPG disappear. When a well know franchise such as Final Fantasy abandons their niche. That is a bad sign in my point of view. I will not be purchasing FF XV. I thoroughly enjoyed the
turn based combat and strategizing of the Final Fantasy's and Lost Odyssey. While FF 13 wasn't the most popular, the paradigm combat system brought a fresh tactical feel to the franchise.

XCom, End War, as well as Halo Wars (which was my personal favorite) were fantastic in my opinion

It truly feels that anything with actual tactics outside of a flipping load out are endangered.

I hope we see more turn based JRPG's.

14. Is this an old thread? Tales of Vesperia never made it to NA on the PS3.

I would have to suggest getting a Wii U and PS4 with your XB1, particularly if you like Japanese games. Even as a jrpg fan, I could never understand how anyone could play Kingdom Hearts, it's just fluff.

Wasteland 2 ,already announced on Xbox one.

Two decades ago i would be agree, but today,it's very rare when i see something interesting for me coming from Japan (the last one was Dragon'Dogma).

And not only on the RPG side but in every game genres (RPG,FPS,action adventure,racing,....)

SquareEnix,Capcom rhymes (for me) with Deus Ex,Dead Rising,Just Cause,Tomb Raider....

A nice, cool turn based RPG is Child of Light.

And another turn based RPG indie is coming soon....Earthstone (don't remember the name).
