CodeCats post actually posted the answer and was funny, I really don't see the problem.

 

Humor is 1 thing, but actually helping people? That's another. Telling them to basically do it themselves isn't funny at all and it certainly isn't helpful.

Really? Don't know what happened for anyone else, but when I clicked on that link in the first reply... it not only
didn't tell me to basically do it myself, it actually did it for me. Being funny and helpful at the same time isn't taboo.

It's actually kind of rude and disrespectful, since it shows that you don't care about their plight.

I'd hardly call someone asking a simple question a plight... nor would I call finding a humorous, light hearted way to be helpful not caring.

There's a reason you don't see me hanging out on these forums much anymore, and that's the reason. Straight up - people on here can be you-know-whats...

@GG - Lighten up a bit already. I've used that site jokingly for years and you're the first person to ever get offended, and the post wasn't even directed towards you. Unbelievable!

I was also going to use the give a fish vs feed a fish analogy, but DaveyBoy beat me to it. You say it was rude and unhelpful, yet Google gave him his answer instantly and it would have been with less effort if he used it in the first place. At least everyone
else around here got it and wasn't offended by a little humor. Though I guess if he had used Google then we wouldn't have ended up with this thread, so all's well that ends well.

As someone else mentioned, this isn't your classroom and we aren't your pupils. Once you realize that and start viewing others as adults then maybe you won't have such a hard time.
